There are some interesting prices kicking about for the tournament top scorer at the moment.

Coral, for example, make Fernando Torres and Miroslav Klose their joint favourites at 9/1 despite neither player leading the scoring for their respective countries in qualifying.

Valencia's David Villa is Luis Aragones' golden boy in the Spanish attack. He outgunned Torres in Spain's qualifying matches and is currently available at a massive 18/1.

It's a similar story where the Germans are concerned, too, with Lucas Podolski put up at nearly three times the price of Klose despite outscoring him 8-5 in qualifying.

EDIT: Also on Antonio di Natale at 85 and Adrian Mutu at 60.

Torres is a nice price @ 9/1 But i wont be backing him.

You need to pick someone from a team that may go all the way cant see spain doing it.

You seem to have missed my point.

Apart from the goals he scored in the UEFA, Podolski had a awful season, domestically.

out of interest, how often does the top scorer play for the winners in such events?

Cristiano Ronaldo for top scorer IMO.

But i know I'll burn in hell for suggesting it.

villa is 20/1 at dones. was thinkin of havin ?20 on it myself

8/1 is he.

R.Van Nistelrooy at 18/1 looks ok, Holland are due a tournement one of these days.

And i'm sure he would be the pick of there scorers.

Ryan,

The Portuguese rapist is 11/1 with Betfred.

The England team are training today ahead of the game v the yanks,

i still cant belive we wont be there in Austria/Switzerland,

all we had to do was get a draw v them dirty gypos.

All the flags would have been out and a great sense of

togetherness would have been felt throughout the land,

plus at least 3 really good piss up's.

FCUKING GUTTED. :(

Sorry I just followed enzo and went on to coral..

If I was to place the bet it would of been with Betfred anyway, as my account is with them.

Taking it as far back as the 1966 World Cup (that?s 11 tournaments), only Mario Kempes (1978), Paolo Rossi (1982) and Ronaldo (2002 ? the fat one, not the gay one!) have come away with both winners medal and Golden Boot.

It?s happened a bit more often in the Euros, with the top scorer shooting his team to glory in five of the last ten competitions. Gerd Muller did it in 1972, Klaus Allofs in 1980, Michel Platini in 1984 and Marco van Basten in 1988. In 1992, finalists Karlheinz Riedle (Germany) and Henrik Larsen (Denmark) shared the title along with Dennis Bergkamp (Holland) and Oleg Blokin (Russia).

Carlos:

Podolski?s form last season wasn?t helped by a niggling back injury, though the form of Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose was obviously the key factor in his shortage of playing time. However, while Klose will definitely be in the Germany squad for Euro 2008, Toni and Franck Ribery definitely will not! Podolski is a bit of a fixture in the national set-up (46 caps despite only being 22 years old) and is unlikely to be left out in favour of the likes of Kevin Kuranyi and Oliver Neuville. He has 24 goals from his 46 games, and coach Joachim Low is sure to select him ahead of the inexperienced Patrick Helmes and Mario Gomez.

Plus, he should be fresh as a daisy!

Enzo - who do you think are the weakest team then?

The host nations, particularly Austria, will make little or no impact.

The Turks will be rubbing rags, too.

Sweden should do better than the bookies seem to expect, while Romania might surprise one or two people - back them to win Group C without the Big Three. :-k

Just started looking at the odds today.

Ballack at 40s could be a decent ew shout.

And Croatia evens with Coral I think to beat Austria looks tasty.

Last time I checked, Larsson (whom I assume you mean) was Swedish.

On that note apparently he's coming out of retirement for the Euro's - they must really be struggling so I'd also discount Ibrahimović from ripping up any trees.

Personally I fancy one Villa, Horseface or Toni...and I think C Ronaldo will get the sh?t kicked out of him and score nob all :yahoo:

Think i'm going to back Portugal to win.

Wasn't being a smart-arse, that's why I wrote (who I assume you mean), for some reason I thought the Dane from 92's first name was summat else and I couldn't be arsed checking :pardon:

http://www.chickendinner.co.uk/home/60604/...olden_shoe.html

? The country of the last three European Championship top-scorers have been eliminated in the semi-finals, as did the 1994, 1998 and 2006 World Cup top-scorers teams -bookmakers offering odds on a nation winning the tournament and a player from that nation being the top-scorer know what they are doing.

? chickendinner superfact: The last fifteen winners of the Golden Shoe have incredibly all been aged between 22 and 26 ? that?s good news for Torres (24), Ronaldo (23), Villa (26), Gomez (22), Podolski (22) but bad news for Klose (29), Toni (31), Henry (30) and Van Nistelrooy (31).

According to the Guardian's German football reporter, the sausage eaters are likely to play Klose and Gomez up front, with Podolski presumably on the bench.

I am gonna watch some of the games,i know its painfull,i am hurting like f uck that were not in

I'll watch some of the games if I am in the house, or if they are on in the pub, but I won't make any special effort. I've also thought about this, and decided that I'm really not all that bothered that England aren't there...............which must be wrong surely

Anyone care to share there bets then?....
