July 15, 200818 yr Last season's return of 11 points was our worst since returning to the top flight. In the previous 6 seasons we averaged a reasonable 22 points a season away from home, meaning we were 11 points short last season. The extra 11 points would have left us comfortable in mid-table.

(Your right, away form was shocking last year, winning at the bottom 3 and 1 other gets you 12 so it isn't really a big ask)

It was the backs to wall style of defending in those games that won us the points and safety. Whisper it...but it was a return to the BSA typical away game performance. More of the same is needed next season.

July 15, 200818 yr I think it needs to be broken down Yes you set your points target but that is going to change throughout the season BSA was constantly changing his short term monthly goals which often effected cup runs etc but he maintained the league was a priority. He did however build this up over many years of course eventualy reaching the Uefa Cup We all know his theory was defence minded but it seemed to work all be it sometimes boring, but effective. This isnt a big up to BSA, infact many times i thought he was a c0ck! I would hope Megson would work out his season goals and monthly targets (im sure he has) im not sure what it would be but my two penneth would suggest pre christmas picking up home wins against the 'non top four crowd', a point against the 'top four' being bonus points and grabbing as many draws away from home as possible putting points on our board but also stopping other clubs gaining 3 After christmas, i have no idea because i dont know what position we will be in!

But did BSA never plan targets for January to May? Because we invariably did shite, then!
July 15, 200818 yr We did shite in that period towards the end of his reign, agreed other seasons, maybe it was planned or BSA rode his luck with the resourses he had, either way we stayed up as planned then got into the Uefa cup not reaching the Champions league which just reaching the champions league as we know was a huge achievement, perhaps over achieved? Perhaps!
July 15, 200818 yr But did BSA never plan targets for January to May? He did. It was to lose interest in Bolton and f?ck off to a bigger club.
July 15, 200818 yr Home form is key to success for me. Lose only 3 or 4 games at home should assure us at of 30 points from wins and draws. I agree away form was poor last season and an improvement was needed but I feel home form is the key
July 15, 200818 yr Having thought long and hard about this I feel that scoring more goals than the opposition in matches is the key. Jules Football genius

We even got 29 at home, the season we just stayed up above West ham.
July 15, 200818 yr scoring more at home and conceeding less or the same as the opposition in away matches is key...
July 15, 200818 yr The key the secret was the one that immediately sprung to mind !! A Quaffers / Bredbury Hall favourite !!
July 15, 200818 yr Is that the place with the dance floor that moved? Just off the motorway at Bredbury next to Morrisons. I think it's a B&Q or a Focus now.

All well and good planning what's gonna happen, but it's kind of pointless if it doesn't actually end up happening! After all you can't just plan and predict what's gonna happen in football, especially us!
