Exactly, if there'd be nothing about Smolarek all weekend and he'd signed at 5 to midnight most would be going to bed tonight happy. Some people i'm sure just want us to get involved on deadline day by buying anyone, regardless of quality.

I think we're in a for a long season going with what we've got, but my point was that I'd rather go with what we've got than bring in the likes of Alonso, Braaten, Cid etc. With that calibre of addition, the season wouldn't be as long: we'd be down by Easter.

 

What we've got has to see us through to january now, hopefully we'll not be in trouble and new arrivals will come to bolster the squad.

 

 

I think we're all disappointed, but we need to get behind the lads now.

So what? Chelsea spent more than us. So did City. Man U as well.

 

Oh hang on, everyone has spent more than us for 8 feckin seasons and we've not done too bad. We signed Smolarek at weekend - as someone else said, if we'd waited til 11:55 to ink the deal, we'd be happy. Not everyone has signed players on deadline day, we did our major sigings alot earlier - usually we haven't signed anyone till deadline day!

You're missing my point.

 

Bolton have always and will always sell their their better players, if the price is right. That's the difficulty of being a small club: you have to assess every possible deal for its potential value.

 

Anelka, Diouf and Meite all wanted to leave. We got what we could for them. But in the past we wouldn't have even spent the ?20m that came in: this time we have spent more than we've received.

 

Small steps, admittedly, but at least there is real investment going on.

It takes time to build a team. You cant just buy loads of players and throw them together. It is best to bring in a few at a time and slowly build a strong unit. People moan when we panic sign shit like Rasiak but when we dont sign anyone because the manager doesnt think they would improve the team people still moan. Cant ragging win!
