Stiffs And Yoof

Featured Replies

Watching MoD last night and seeing West Sham playing two young lads made me wonder why we don't have much coming through.

Anyone know owt about our reserves and yoof?

At what point is it a good time to give them a chance? Probably not when in relegation trouble but is the problem with the Premiership that you're always fighting for something so rarely in a position to try these lads out without risking your job?

On another, slightly connected note, dare I say it, going down COULD mean that we get the chance to change the manager, change our style of play, bring some yoof through and perhaps "lose" the kind of players who have given us so much over the last 10 years but have made us one-dimensional. Example - Nolan would probably benefit from a move away from the club.

do you have any idea of what is currently happening at the club?

any time an academy player comes through the bolton faithful can't wait for they're first run of poor form to barack and boo them.

so in a struggle probably isn't best

like who?

like who?

Hunt, Nolan, JOB and RVT our last 4 acadamy products to make the 1st team are all targets of the depresive boo boys

I'd love to see Obadayi and his ilk in the 1st 11 but 1 mistake and the boo boys will be on their back and any confidence will sonn be long gone.

Read it again, I'm not suggesting for a second that we should be bringing young lads in.

I'm looking for a discussion about who we have to look forward to, and if we haven't why not.

ok, our acedamy players who are old enough, are not good enough, unfortunatly

the acedemy setup will go a long way to improving that situation, but it will take time.

and we still have to get these kids before bigger clubs do. and even if we do, they will still probably be poached if theyre actually any good.

Is he usually on the bench? I never usually take much notice of who is on the bench (neither does Megson). IMO he should have a place on the bench. He might not be Premiership standard, but I can guarentee that his pace, hunger and unknowness (probably not a word) will make him more of a threat in the last 15/20 minutes than Helguson is.

Know what you mean, Clown, but take a look at the bottom few in the Championship. Makes your blood run cold.

A mate of mine's son played for the under 11's at BWFC and was widely regarded as the best all round midfielder for his age, certainly in the North West, at the beginning of this season he signed for Liverpool. 11 yeras old and poached by one of the big 4

and there we have it

in a nutshell

not that anybody should be judging/signing kids at 11 years old

fcuking disgrace

We have lost Kyle Bartley to Arsenal and I have heard a rumour that Jack sampson has gone to Arsenal for 300k, that is why we cannot bring players through.

Basham on bench today?

Been watching the reserves and youth teams a couple of times and there isn't really any stand out talent there. Possibly one or two look decent but aren't allowed to play properly.

Whether Jimmy Phillips will start to make a difference time will tell. At least he will want to do what is right for the club.

What is a shame is that the coaches seem to constantly tell the players to hoof the ball up front as soon as they get it and sometimes the players run round the pitch like they are hearing the Benny Hill music in their heads and they have to chase the ball.

What is disappointing is that I have heard Megson has never even spoken to some of the U-18s. Maybe he should be inspiring them to try and get in his squad.

It may also help if the club could find the money to finish the academy.

Playing the Benny Hill music during 1st team games might be a good idea.

Talking Heads' "Road to Nowhere" sometimes seems apt

There's a common theme there though - 3 of the 4 just are not good enough for the top flight, in the cold light of day

I know what you mean and we are guilty of being harsh on 'our own'

But it's not like we produce an endless stream of quality and ruin it
