Happens to me a fair bit too. Not that that's any help but hanyhoo.

Doesn't happen to me. Have you tried deleting your cookies?

Every week when I do my virus scan. Doesn't work when I do it at the bottom of the first page though.

Rockwell was right!

Using same laptop but I have to login if I am using the PC at work or at home. Is it an access route issue, i.e. everytime you use a different access route the login cookies become redundant?

happy, there does seem to be a problem.

i thought it was me, as it concided with our new firebox and load balancing.

but it appears to be happening to others too..

just for the rcord it happens to me too, thought it was just my laptop. out of interest, and due to me having very little computer knowledge (numb as f?ck is the I.T. term i believe), what are cookies and how do you delete them?

It's been happening to me for several months - and still is.

I've cleared the cookies on many occasions but still it happens.

The problem may very well be at my end but as I'm not computer expert and I need my computer I simply live with it rather than mess about and probably do something to my computer that I can't manage to undo if it I bugger it up.

To be honest logging in takes only a couple of clicks - so I've never bothered mentioning the problem before.

On another matter -

When I do have to log in I notice that much of the site is shown as having restrictive forum access.

I also note that at anyone time there is always umpteen members on the site and only about three visitors - which is the reverse way round if you look at the other Bolton forums viewing details.

As the site become member only recently?

The site is member only. That's as much as I can help you with.

I presume that the 4 guests are either Mods not wishing to be identified or 4 non-members simultaeneously(sp) trying to get a look in.

Even the admin team have to log in.

We can't view the site cloaked anymore, so it will have been "outsiders" looking in.

At least one of the guests can access the forum -

You do, but, like all of us, may log in anonymously so you don't get bombarded with PMs. Probably more relavent to HW than your good self, especially when, on the odd occasion, things on here have gone tits up.

Personally, I don't believe you should be allowed to login anonymously.

PS And I'm fairly sure you can't.

I shall try.

You are, of course, correct Mr Traf. There was once an option to hide your screen name from fellow posters. It seems to have gone.

Not biting

Anyway the decision was made during the summer to make it members only.

Just out of interest why did the site revert to members only?

and if it is members only - how come some guests can still read the forums?

Can I ask another question? What's best, a site that purports to have x thousand members, even though the posting is done by three or four hundred; or a site with three or four hundred members and no lurkers.

i.e. if you don't post you can't come in.

This isn't necessarily how I'd want it to be, a mate of mine runs a similar type of site but had a culling session, getting rid of anyone not posting. Aparently it saves him some band width or something.

I think a cull is imminent.
