Been a few weeks since I've provided the last newsflash I think.
Someone mentioned it's Xmas soon, is that true? The days just roll into one. 15 hours a f?ckin day, EVERY day. Gets on top of you after a while. But I get two weeks off in Feb to get back to the motherland have a good pop at alcoholism.
Overall it's been a bit grim recently. 9 blokes, six Brits and today 3 Danes, have died in this Province in the last week or so and it's as if there's a memorial service a couple of times a week at the moment. To be frank as my job is not one of the teeth and nails fighting ones I feel a bit of a con artist being here in relative safety (though a Taleban rocket did blow up the dog compound about 100 yards from our place the other week ) and I'm not looking forward to the folk at home, through no fault of their own, asking for war stories and behaving as if I've done something special when I walk in the pub. Well I might have in some ways, but this is not the job that springs to mind when most people think of soldiers, important as it is in its own way. I wish I could say a bit more about my day to day activity, but imprisonment would follow. It's not as cool as that makes it sound though!
And it's f?ckin freezing AND p?ssing down too.
I'm never one to try and tug heartstrings or owt, but spare a brief thought folks at this time of the year for the losses over the last few weeks. And for every lad who's killed, there will be three or four who survive with awful injuries. In one roadside bomb incident a couple of weeks ago a lad lost his legs at the scene and on the heli to the military hospital at Camp Bastion he had his arms amputated too. I don't know if he survived or was one of those who died. I know its the other side of the world, but each one of these fellas is someone's son, or someone's Dad, and someone's best mate. So really, very few people have got a f?cking thing to complain about, me included.
Smiffs, second and third week in Feb, get the f?ckin ale in
