I'm currently looking into something in relation to the work I've done with the BWSA - what are peoples opinions on bringing terracing back to top flight football?

 

Would you want it at at the Reebok?

 

(I know at present it is very unlikely to have, but bare with me, I'm just after opinions atm)

Yes definately bring it back! Stop all the moaning OAP ruining the game for you sat there like a sack of spuds expecting you to do the same!

The majority of football supporters in the country, not just me and most fans of BWFC, would love terraces back. Lets be honest though, it's not going to happen is it?

My knees are shot but I stood at the European away games so why not.

Would definitely have it back and I'd never buy a seated ticket again.

I'm not so young any more but I've rarely got into the atmosphere of a match since moving to the Reebok and having to sit. I miss the Burnden Paddock.

And when I go to non-league matches (most weeks when not watching the Whites), I always stand. No problem.

I hope it happens but it would only confuse the stewards

I've seen at first hand what happens on terraces and it nearly cost the life of one of my family. I would give up watching football if terracing was brought back.

 

There is no doubt that all seater stadia have helped to stop hooliganism inside the ground. Look at Italy and Spain - still have a huge problem and have standing areas (and even in the sitting areas, a lot of the seats are pretty rubbish).

 

When you've seen children nearly crushed to death, it gives you a different perspective. Given the history of our club, I think the welfaer and the safety of our fans comes first. I have yet to see a 'safe standing' area that wouldn't stop being safe if the mindset of the people wished it tio do so. But, hey, lets not think about that...

So what about gigs like Glastonbury and other concerts. They have an all standing section? Whats the difference?

 

I see where your coming from but surely you just limit the amount of people going through the turnstyles to an amount that is safe. In the olden days they just let anybody in who wanted to go in?

I think we all realise the problems surrounding standing but if it was reintroduced it would not be the same as it used to be (more controlled environment, no smoking/drinking, limits on capacity, etc). Germany have standing and it seems to work ok over there. As for Italy and Spain, the problems with their fans go far beyond sitting or standing.

I find it ridiculous that horrible nasty terracing is safe if you are in the bottom 2 Leagues? Or Rugby League for that matter?

 

It's either safe or it isn't.

 

I don't think we will ever see huge banks of terracing (kop, Ibrox, Celtic Park) but with competant Policing and Stewarding it's perfectly safe with reasonable numbers.
