Transfer Deadline Day Gossip

I will start it off, from BBCi we have:

0903: "Ex-Liverpool player Bruno Cheyrou is in Manchester for talks with Bolton about a ?4m move from Rennes."

Shane via text on 81111

Two players linked to us in the past:

0831: Reading's Stephen Hunt off to Spurs for ?5m? Oliver Dacourt set to join Fulham on loan from Inter Milan? All rumours doing the rounds.

Best bullshit of teh day so far:

0743: "Eidur Gudjohnsen stayed at a Hull City centre hotel last night, and is due for talks at the KC stadium this morning, This one is for real."

ullbornandbred on 606

Didn't he come on as a substitute for Barcelona last night against Racing?

I make it 3 lots of 60% of a match. More than enough to beg for Elmander to get fit very soon.

(...sound of window slamming shut...unless Zidane is driving to Bolton from Paris)

exactly same as last year, get rid of a player and have no one lined up, poor effort.

I am happy with the team that played on Saturday. HOWEVER we have very little after that. McCann can come into the midfield, Elmander back up front, but if we get any injuries, suspensions or a player hits a bad run of form, then we might just pay for the lack of additions.

Got our business done early in Puygrenier and Davies, Makukula as backup for a fit Elmander. Had all 3 of those gone through today people would be happy, it's just cus there were no last minute deals.

The money was there for the 'right' one, but couldn't be done - just like Elmander last January. None of our rivals have shook the earth with signings, the Jan window is fast becoming a waste of time.

Not for the first time but i agree with Mr Durden.

I agree Tyler, business has been done early, which is good news surely

I am happy with theses two, Puygrenier and Davies.

We now have enough to stay up,EASY. :good:

What he said, although another midfielder wouldn't have gone a-miss.

The window slammed shut and trapped a scouser's hand allegedly.

PS Our team/squad is stronger and we're financially better off for the summer window.

If the window has closed and we have nothing in the pipeline, then my view of the situation is :-

Started the season with a squad low on numbers, especially in midfield.

In the January window we've brought in :-

One on-loan striker (Makukula - inexperienced in Prem, not match-fit, jury out) and sold one striker (Helgusson - Prem experience, injury prone, not that effective).

One on-loan defender (Puygrenier - inexperienced in Prem, not quite match fit, promising).

One young midfielder (M Davies - inexperienced in Prem, young, must watch we don't burn him out, very very promising) and sold one midfielder (Nolan - Prem experienced, good in dressing-room, sometime onfield leader, largely ineffective last 2-3 seasons).

Hmmm ........... profit of ?3m-?4m, slightly reduces average of squad further, probably improves squad quality overall, still leaves us short on numbers especially in midfield. Forget all the rejected bids and alleged near-misses, that's where we seem to have ended up. Not a particularly good transfer window. We just have to hope that going with what we've now got will be enough.
