Worst Team In The Premier?

THE WORST XI

Yes, here it is - the very poorest 11 players of the season

21/05/2009

SCOTT CARSON (WBA)

Was given another chance in the Premier League at the Hawthorns but has looked hesitant and short of confidence behind a poor defence.

How he ever won England caps is utterly beyond me.

EMMANUEL EBOUE (Arsenal)

Has looked woeful at times for a player of his experience. Would surely be out the door if Arsene Wenger had serious money to spend.

No team with Arsenal's Champions League ambitions can afford a player like Eboue.

MIKAEL SILVESTRE (Arsenal)

And it gets worse for Arsenal. Not only do they have Eboue, but they also have Silvestre.

Only signed as a stopgap but when he stepped in for crucial matches it wasn't hard to see why Fergie showed him the door at United.

MICAH RICHARDS (Man City)

Has completely lost his focus. Believes he is a far better player than he really is.

Positional sense is appalling and the only silverware he cares for are watches, bracelets, earrings, and chains. Needs to change his attitude immediately.

NICKY SHOREY (Aston Villa)

Had a great chance to show the form that got him into the England squad but threw it away. Looked sluggish and overweight all season.

Martin O'Neill's worst buy. Would struggle to get into the Reading team now.

DAVID BENTLEY (Tottenham)

His monumental ego has completely overshadowed his patchy contribution at the Lane. One brilliant goal at Arsenal is not enough to make a season.

Has been placed on transfer list and it's not hard to see why. Has struggled to get near the team since Harry Redknapp took charge.

JOEY BARTON (Newcastle)

Has let his team down every time he has been called upon. Has been an unmitigated disaster on Tyneside and it's hard to see anyone being prepared to give him yet another chance.

Has utterly squandered a fantastic natural talent and there can be no greater condemnation than that.

STEED MALBRANQUE (Sunderland)

Another waster with undoubted class who only looks interested when he is playing for a contract. Has been a passenger in relegation fight.

Spurs fans were sad to see him go, but it looks like one of the few decisions Juande Ramos got right in his brief stay at White Hart Lane.

ELANO (Man City)

Has had nose put out of joint by arrival of star names at City. Has let down supporters with his fitful contribution and will be on his bike this summer.

Came off with a mysterious 'something in his eye' injury earlier this month and has done nothing to endear himself to manager Mark Hughes.

JOHAN ELMANDER (Bolton)

He cost ?8.2million from second-rate French club Toulouse and five goals in 29 games sums up what a costly mistake Gary Megson made. Looks completely out of place in the Premier League and has no discernible talent - not exactly a great recommendation in a side which has often struggled for goals.

AFONSO ALVES (Middlesbrough)

His failure to adapt to the Premier League after scoring regularly in the toy-town Dutch league is seen as the biggest factor in Boro's demise.

A very expensive mistake by Gareth Southgate and one which looks worse every time Alves gets on the pitch which, it must be said, is not very often.

MOST OVER-RATED PLAYER

Shaun Wright-Phillips (Man City)

Failed at Chelsea and has shown since his return last August that he cannot inspire his team-mates in the less pressurized atmosphere of Manchester City.

WORST KIT

Liverpool Away

This green shirt and dark shorts looks like army surplus gear. Liverpool have not won a league title since introducing a green away kit in the early 1990s. Which is the second reason it shoudl be dumped.

WORST GROUND

Fratton Park, Portsmouth

This must surely take this award hands down every year. Old, scruffy, antiquated. You need to go back to World War II for the last time it was fit for purpose.

How Elano and Eboue are in the worst 11 of the season i've no idea.

Everyone knows Elano is a confidence player and can appear lazy at times but that's just the way he is. As for Eboue he's in the same boat as Diaby and Lucas etc in that he's probably not good enough for top 4 but would be a very decent player for the other 16 teams in the prem

reeks of cut and paste too me

this is F365's take on our side this year

BOLTON WANDERERS

Player Of The Season: Kevin Davies

Big, brutal and effective, Davies more or less personifies Bolton. In these days of the non-scoring striker (TM, Emile Heskey), it's no surprise that Davies damn near received an England call-up earlier in the year, and would provide a better alternative to Heskey in Capello's apparent Plan A than, say, Peter Crouch. A tally of 11 goals is excellent for a side in Bolton's position, and as long as Davies keeps playing like this, Bolton should be okay for a while yet.

Let Down Of The Season: Fabrice Muamba

We were amazed to see that Muamba actually played 33 times in the Premier League. Amazed because he's been a colossal disappointment, providing nothing like value for the ?5million paid to Birmingham last summer. Those comparisons to Patrick Vieira are only accurate when in reference to their appearance.

Breakthrough/Newbie Of The Season: Matty Taylor

Purchased last January, Taylor has been excellent in his first full season, and he'll curse that there are so many in front of him for the England left-sided spot. Ten league goals in 33 is a fantastic record for a midfielder, and he has compensated for the relative lack of strikes from elsewhere...

They Could've Done With...: Some more goals from elsewhere

Beyond Taylor and Davies, the next highest scorer was Johan Elmander with five. Not a great return for ?11million, and with a few more contributions from elsewhere Bolton may have pushed for a top-half finish.

appart from getting Elmaders price wrong and Deducting a goal from Davo i can't find much to argue with there

Is the price that wrong though?

The ?8M+ that is quoted for him was the net amount of cash we paid, somehow we did manage to get ?2M+ valuation on Braatan - so on soccerbase Elmander is listed at ?10M.

My team would be:

GK - Gomes (Spurs) - absolute rubbish for most of the season. picked up a bit towards the end but has cost spurs many points

RB - Justin Hoyte (Boro) - Never been a prem player. Too l=ight weight. Not a good enough defender and good enough as an attacking full back. Cost boro around ?4-5m which isn't worth it considering his limited experience

CB - Shelton Matris (WBA) - Absolutely crap everytime i've seen him. He's not even a championship player!!

CB - Collocini (Toon) - An awful defnsive display all season. Biggest waste of ?10m since Albert Luque. Didn't seem bothered about Newcastle going down

LB - Jose Enrique (Toon) - They're only left back and a poor signing at ?6m. Not prem standard and next to Barton Big Sam's worst buy

RM - Bentley (Spurs) - Cost them ?17m and hasn't done anything for them this season. On the transfer list and biggest flop next to Keane at Liverpool

CM - Barton (toon) - Need i say more?

CM - Deco (Chelsea) - Not set the worl alight since heading to stamford bridge. Had a god 3 or 4 games and then nothing since. Heading out of chelsea to italy this summer

LM - Stewart Downing - (Boro) - I know this might seem a surprise but for me he is very over-rated and nowhere near the ?15m people say he is worth. He is very one dimesnional in that all he can do is (although well) send in crosses. He hasn't scored a league goal. Has not been particularly talismanic this season. He has played as if he wants to leave and knows he will leave. Southgate should have got rid 18 months ago and used the funds to strengthen his team. If he is worth ?15m then Matty Taylor must be worth ?30m with his 10 goals and countless assists this season

ST - Owen (Toon) - Plagued by injuries and not looked anything like the player who a few years ago was one of the most feared strikers in the world. No pace, no movement, no confience and no goals. Not what you want from a player on over ?100k a week

ST - Alves (Boro) - Cost them much more money than Elmander with significant less return on the pich. Only scored aboout 10 goals in 2 seasons and his game doesn't seem to fit the English style

Other notable mentions

GK - Carson, Brad Jones

RB - Micah Richards, Eboue

CB - Richard Dunne, Robert Huth, Anton Ferdinand, AOB

RM - Glen Little, Diouf, Riga

CM - Dunn, Reo-Coker, Muamba, Nolan

LM - Jerome Thomas ,Duff

ST - Elmander, Zamora

Its cut and paste so not my views entirely. Interesting to see Elmander (according to page 505 teletext) thinks he has had a good season, God help us if he has a poor one.

I'd have thought that was pretty obvious.

Eboue plays for Arsenal, Frank. It doesn't matter how good he'd be in another team, the clue is in the title 'WORST XI' for the season

How Elano and Eboue are in the worst 11 of the season i've no idea.

maybe, but the fact they've been so sh?te for their teams when they've played this season, regardless of confidence or if they'd be good for someone else, is why they got into that team

eboue's performance in the build up to when he got subbed (and booed off) was farcical

elano was good last year, he wasn't this - v poor by city fan's accounts

Is the price that wrong though?

pretty sure after we signed him Gary said we signed Elmander for ?8.2m.

at the time it was stated that the Braaten deal was completly separate now whether that be true or not depend on how trustful of BWFC you are or not

maybe, but the fact they've been so sh?te for their teams when they've played this season, regardless of confidence or if they'd be good for someone else, is why they got into that team

Eboue was awful in that game but after that his performances improved dramatically he scored 4 goals this season thats 1 more than Fabregas there's plenty of players out there who've been worse this season (Downing, Bentley even Muamba and AOB) Eboue is a very Average player playing for a team where averageness isn't accepted.

correct

his poor performances stood out

as it says, his performances not acceptable for a player if his experience and for a team like arsenal

which is why he got in this XI

Now did lard arse (Viduka) not make it in

Now did lard arse (Viduka) not make it in

was going to suggest it was because he barely played

then i checked, and indeed he only played 11 times

still 2 more than Barton!

guess barton is an easy target

worst high profiles players that lot obviously...

theres a lot of real shite in the league, i could name 50 worse than that lot.

in fact, to be fair, thats a fuckin decent team (on paper)

I'd have thought that was pretty obvious.

Really - you don't say!

The norm is to quote the website the cut-and-paste has come from

Interesting to see Elmander (according to page 505 teletext) thinks he has had a good season, God help us if he has a poor one.

Now now, don't reopen that debate - Garrp will be on soon to explain exactly why Elmander has had a good season. :lazy:

I think that's the point of the article

everyone knows AOB is sh?te, them lot had a lot more expected from them and they all failed (some miserably) hence they make it into the poorest XI

go on then :pardon:

Its obviously lies

you told me Elmander himself admitted to having a bad season and that I was talking shit saying you just chose to read it that way

Biggest waste of money = Berbatov?

Anyone think differently?
