Russell Sprout Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 What's an Ernest? Good old fashioned name. Not enough Ernests left in this world.
no balls Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Good old fashioned name. Not enough Ernests left in this world. It's as shit as the name Keanu or Kayleigh is these days.
Notlob Downunder Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 It's as shit as the name Keanu or Kayleigh is these days. Hey my Grandad was named Ernest, and he was The Fastest Milkman in the West!
Russell Sprout Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 It's as shit as the name Keanu or Kayleigh is these days. I used to go out with a girl called Janice No balls or was it Noble when I was 11. Not you is it?

jolly-olly Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Allardyce was hardly given money to spend so had no choice but to bring in the older players. As soon as he was given decent money he brought in Anelka. Oh what a failure that was. Allardyce was begging for funds to spend big on decent, young, quality players and wasn't given it.

He had that at Newcastle and look what happened there Seriously nobody can slate Big Sam because he did wonders for this club and the way he did it worked at the time. Megson does it a bit different now because times have changed and its difficult pick up decent freebies like Sam did. Whether the Megson way will work as good as Sam's did only time will tell but at least lets give him that time to try. No point comparing current managers to past ones because so many things are different. Edited July 20, 2009 by tylswhite
Guest squidgy66 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Janice? How fcuking dare you! My parents actually wanted me so obviously didn't call me that! Is that why they gave you a normal name and made it sound prententious then? Just asking like.
no balls Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Is that why they gave you a normal name and made it sound prententious then? Just asking like. No, it's the original way of spelling it. So they were traditionalists rather than pretentious. HTH.

Yeah he had money and brought someone in who would use as a stepping stone, a QUICKFIRE stepping stone, you really think he would of come to the Reebok if other clubs was in for him? Anelka same as Diouf had personalitie problems and come with baggage, Anelka learnt from his mistakes and used Bolton to get his career back on track, watch Rovers compared to us this season, see who plays the better football then. Big Sam had money at Newcastle and look what happened there, no young talent, same as what he did at the Reebok tried getting Fallen stars with baggage but paying for them.
Guest bwfcdan Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 you really think he would of come to the Reebok if other clubs was in for him? How do you know he wouldnt...when we bought him we were a club that had finished 8th, 6th and 8th in the league. We had become a side that was expected to fight for a place in Europe.

Anelka my friend isnt Bolton, Everton, Spurs, West Ham and Blackburn quality, he's more like Man utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea quality. If any of them 4 clubs come in for him or any top europe team he would of said no thanks Bolton. 100% sure of that.

So what if Anelka used the club as a stepping stone. Allardyce signed him and that is that. He did well for us and as with any of our players they get looked at by other clubs when on form. Other clubs are surely looking at Cahill at the moment. So when a top club comes in for him can we say he used us as a stepping stone?

If Cahill gets better and better and deserves a move fair play to him, but i dont believe he is using us as a quick fire stepping stone (deffinately was'nt his intention when he first came to us). Megson has shown his ambition claiming he wants to build a team around him (possible future captain) but us as fans aint making the Reebok or the club feel like home for the players Megson has signed! Dont forget our so called dour manager signed these players!

You think Cahill came here intending to stay with us forever with the ability hes got? yeah right

You think Cahill came here intending to stay with us forever with the ability hes got? yeah right Cahill is learning his trade with us, Anelka learnt his trade before joining us. His career was at an all time low he needed a way out to re advertise and give him a new image, he USED us. Cahill is here to learn his trade and part of Megsons long term plans, if we get 20 million for him then so be it, Cahill never come to us hoping to move on a year after, he come to us for first team football and gain some experience. If im honest with all the negativity going round the club, im suprised anyone would want to play for us at the moment!

tylswhite Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 So basically he us USING us just like Anelka. Your argument is flawed. Exactly the point i was making Olly, i dont think hes having it though Players use clubs, clubs use players thats how it works nowadays.
Russell Sprout Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Exactly the point i was making Olly, i dont think hes having it though Players use clubs, clubs use players thats how it works nowadays. Cahill would be off like a shot if a top 6 club came in for him, and why not? An ambitious lad, he'd get more money and enhance his England prospects. We're a selling club too, I reckon any offer over ?15 mill he'd be on his way.
Guest bwfcdan Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Anelka my friend isnt Bolton, Everton, Spurs, West Ham and Blackburn quality, he's more like Man utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea quality. You just said other clubs, and im sure at the time if another team challenging for a Uefa Cup place like Blackburn or West Ham came in for him we would still have had a very good chance of signing him. Im seem to recall Pompey being after him when we signed him, cant be sure though

Remind me : how many years was Big Sam at Newcastle ? Toon stoopidly (as usual) didn't give a manager they selected enough time to prove himself one way or the other.
