is cahill only adequate?

Believe me, adequate is a huge compliment coming from Mr Goodhead!

I don't usually take much from pre-season friendlies - testimonials but I was pleased with Muamba's performance and I thought Elmander showed a lot more confidence on the ball but wether or not he is a goalscorer remains to be seen.

I thought Ricketts crossing was good and Robinson had a solid start. Sean Davies fit into midfield comfortably and Zat Knight looks like the ideal partner for Cahill.

I suspect that Steinnsen and Lloyd Samuel will be first choice next week though.

As I said, its too early to make proper appraisals but I thought yesterday was a good workout for the team.

Overall was a decent game for a pre season friendly really. bit of an atmosphere too which was good. ricketts looked good, willing to get forward and put some crosses in and defended well when needed. Think i would still play j-lloyd at left back due to extra pace, but robinson was decent enough. Sean davis seems compliment muamba more, comfortable on the ball and always looking for it. thought taylor was disapointing, poor crosses and generally didn't really seem to get in the game. Elmander was busy enough but still seems short on confidence. jury still out on weather he can get the goals this year. Zat knight was also very good.

 

good to see us play 442 aswell. more intent to get forward and with sean davis in the middle, more likely to play on the floor more than last season. still need to up the performance a notch for sunderland, but confident we can start with a win.

Robinson, still not sure of this signing, hopefully only backup to samuel. offered no attacking threat whatsoever against hibs.

 

Ricketts, very impressive, good engine, cracking cross, hard to judge defensively, tough to choose bewteen him and steinsson.

 

Knight, clogger. with a bit more footballing ability than obrien and shittu. 1st choice partner for cahill easily.

 

Davis, fookin cracking signing. busy, box-to-box, makes space for himself and others, passes it simple, rarely losing possession. top player.
