Can You Name

The first Bolton side you ever saw play?

I certainly can't - but it was sometime around the mid 60's and included Eddie Hopkinson,John Ritson,Warwick Rimmer,Freddie Hill etc etc

Anyone on here with a good memory, can name the full Bolton side they first saw play?

With my Grandad on March 11th 1967 vs Palace, 0-0 I think and boring as hell, why did I go back?!

Come on now Ron, you know the answer to that one. Same reason numpties carry on smoking when they know it is killing/diminishing/limiting them. It is an addiction - pure and simple.

John Thomas scored a penalty in a 1-0 win over Wolves.

Their fans were banned is a memory that sticks.

I even wrote about my first ever match for the matchday programme about 5 seasons ago when we sponsored the ball against (I think) Southampton.

I'll recount the tale if anyone's arsed:

BUT, you have to promise not to hate me.

For 2/3 years I'd been being taken to a different football ground altogether by an uncle from the Flixton area of Manchester. Let's just say I wasn't fully aware of football as a "thing" as I was only 9/10. All I'll say is that my first dozen or so live matches were spent sat on the front bars of a largish terrace near the Kelloggs factory....

Anyhoo, said uncle took me to Burnden one afternoon when his team were't playing. The Wolves match. He bought 3 tickets in the Lever end for me, him and a cousin.

We got to our seats and, I shit you not, a chap was sat in one of them. My uncle pointed out in his suddenly glaring Mancunian accent to this chap that he was, in fact, in one of our seats. The chap, with an utterly bewildered look on his face, duly shuffled one seat to the left.

My uncle then had to point out that he'd simply moved into one of the other seats we'd bought. The chap shook his head, looked at my uncle like he'd just fallen from the sky and budged up another seat.

The first half came and went.

We looked to the left and there were us 3 and this still bemused chap sat together in a foursome in the middle of a deserted block of seats. with crisp bags blowing all around us. To this day my uncle still rings me from places like Moscow and Barcelona to remind me of this moment as he celebrates certain wins..

Because you see it was this moment, and the moment JT knocked in the pen that I became hooked on being a footnball fan. At that precise moment I turned my back on the "other" team I had been taken to watch and at this moment I realised BWFC had entered my bloodstream and would never leave.

The irony of it being Wolves has never left me and proves I made the right choice.

You are unbeleivable

May I suggest you have sex very quickly?

Oh, and if it's an argument about watching shite, 2 words for you - Roy McFarland.

Knob.

we won 5-3 (well thats what dad wrote on the programme i cant really remember it i was 6!!)

Its a good job George doesn't come on here anymore!

Its a good job George doesn't come on here anymore!

I know its bloody sacrilege to write on em, he used to fill in the results of all the other clubs in the programme as well <_<

Can't remember the Bolton team - Siddall, Rimmer, Greaves, Byrom - at a guess,

but a young John Toshack scored both for Cardiff in a 2 nil win for them, early seventies.

My first match was Mid to late 80's and was either Aldershot or Newport County at Burnden. No clue who the starting 11 was ! :pardon:

My first ever Bolton game would probably have been Chorley reserves v Bolton "B" in Lancashire Combination division 2 in about 195?. Bolton "B" played at Grundy Hole in those days. No idea what the team was.

First match was 07/11/81 - we beat Watford 2-0. I remember the bloke on the Tannoy announcing that it was John Barnes' 18th birthday that day. Stood in the Lever End with my Dad, awestruck. Don't recall the exact side but Tony Henry and Chris Thompson netted for us.

Ah, the nostalgia...

My first match was on 27st January 1976 - we played Luton Town - Won 3-0 - Gary Jones, Byrom, Allardyce - 21358 on.

My Guess

Sydall

Ritson

Dunne

Jones

Allardyce

Greaves

Whatmore

Jones

Thompson

Reid

Byrom

A team consisting of: McDonnagh, Scott, Caldwell, Hartford at a guess around 1983 was my first game

but the first games I actually remember were a 8-1 win against Walsall and a 1-0 home defeat to Gillingham at home

and Blackpool on boxing Day and York away all in the mid 80's, i cant remember the scores at the away games but certainly what happened off the pitch (well and on it actually)

Pretty sure a lot of you might have already seen this, but a useful trivia site (doubtless one of many) to fill in the memory voids which alcohol/old age have created:

Sadly I think it's missing a page on team line-ups... <_<

1973 ish I think.

I remember Charlie Wright, Ritson, Dunne, Curran, Waldron, Greaves, Whatmore, Reid, Allardyce, Jones, the bloke who has an unusual name and was sold to Spurs shortly after, can't remember any more.
