Megson Aint Happy!

Featured Replies

Now can I say from the outset that I am not a Megson lover and I couldn't understand why they appointed him in the first place.

But, He was approached and offered one of the best jobs in football even with his very 'ordinary' track record. His remit, to keep the whites in the Premier League at all costs.

On his first match day in charge, he had to 'sneak' into the dugout because the natives were not happy. Ever since he has been subjected to vitriolic abuse from a small section of fans and some idiots who post on the BN website. For two seasons running, he has kept the club in the premier league by playing a style of football only slighty less entertaining than that Brazilian trained coach Sam Allardyce!

Some of his signings have been a succes some have not, par for the course for any manager.

During the close season, he stated that he wanted a creative midfielder and goal scoring striker. Now even my wife knows that 'quality' players cost lots of money and I can only assume that when he made his statements that he thought he would be given the funds.

It is entirely possible that as I type, the cheques are being written and the said players will be posing with their scarves and brand new shirts very soon.

It is also possible that, due to lack of funds, we will be scratching around the leftovers of players left after all the other clubs have invested in their new players.

Come Monday all will be clear and it could be Gary Megson thats is the unhappiest chappy at the Reebok!

Indeed, come Monday we will know.

He would have known from the outset his budget for the transfer window.

We needed a partner for Cahill and an attacking midfielder. Knight and the Korean lad seem to fit the bill. Robinson and Ricketts don't improve the first team at all and we have enough cover in those positions already.

Another striker is needed, desperately. Letting Tope go out on loan and willing to sell Vaz Te leaves us very thin on the ground.

Did we have cover? Megson has effectively wrote Nicky Hunt off and has gone on record to say we will use Gardner as a left midfielder. Thus we only had JLS and Gretar as recognised fullbacks.

Somethings going on behind the scenes , either Gary has cocked up and blown his budget on defensive minded players or the rugs been pulled under him with finances.

IMO Tope and Vaz Te where never going to be the answer. We have Elmander and Kevin Davies and both of them dont score many goals - It has been obvious to everyone for at least a year and Gary Megson doesn't see it; if he did he wouldn't have bought two defenders and Shaun Davis - Now he is talking about bringing Kevin Nolan back - The rest of the football world must be thinking 'what the fack is going on at Bolton' - We are a joke

agreed, i have no problem with the fullback signings, AS COVER.

for megson to restore a little faith, he must now drop robinson for samuel.

ricketts has done ok i reckon, now steinsson has to work his bollocks of to get back in the team imo.

competition for places is no problem, providing the in-form player plays.

Fuck me!! Did I imagine Megson a while back saying he was looking to sign a forward?

The joke at present is people getting themselves in a flip about players we aren't going to sign before the window has closed.

I'm so angry I didn't win the lottery tomorrow.

what a load of crap.

them area's still needed strengthening did they not?

do you expect a quality striker to drop of a tree?

if we had blown all our cash on a striker, you would have been moaning we didnt strengthen the defence and midfield!

He'd be moaning regardless.

Apart from the creative midfielder and striker, the defence also needed strengthening and he has done that although I would prefer Robinson to be backup to JLS than first choice. I will reserve judgement on Zat Knight untill he has played more matches with Cahill.

Ricketts has impressed me so far so I, personally, dont have a problem with any of his signings.

Davis seems like Nolans natural replacement.

My point now, though, is how much more money has he got left to spend. Compared with other clubs, we have spent very little and it may be that his options are limited.

If he was handed ?40 million in the summer and we were in this position come Monday evening then I would say he has failed.

I have no idea how much is in the transfer kitty and I guess no one else on here does either.

It appears to me that the board seem content to let GM to take the flak.

My thoughts exactly. I reckon the latter because even Megson knows we are desperate for some firepower and not getting any would cost him his job an maybe us our premier league status.

Or nobody will sign for him

The consensus was that we needed a centre back and attacking player (s)

If he fails to bring in the attacking player we need he cannot use money as an excuse, given the fact he's chosen to invest in two far from essential positions before he'd secured a forward player

It's all well and good people saying he doesn't like Hunt, wants to play Gardner in midfield etc. The fact remains we had adequate full backs (one of which he bought for a tidy sum) who were virtually ever present last year; and in case of injury/suspension we could easily juggle things around to cover them

What we don't have is any kind of option up front

He needs to come through with something by the deadline but I'm not holding my breath

Thing is Tyls, he's had lots of cash in his time here and the squad he's built is short of firepower

He inherited two of the brighter sparks in Davies and Gardner

With the money he's had he's bought 2 right backs, a left back, 3 or 4 centre halves, a few midfielders...

We'll see what happens but he's had plenty of time, money and opportunity to sign more attacking players in his time here

I agree but lots of managers work from back to front and we had to give him enough chances to buy these attacking players we need. He has had enough time to do this after this transfer window imo so if he doesnt he has only got himself to blame when he gets sacked. Theres no way he will survive the season with the current attacking options we have now.

unless of course, he was promised money and now eddie/garty ahve changed thier mind for what ever reason?

maybe his thoughts are, its little easier to stop goals and win 1-0. that score a shit load and win 4-3?

We'll have to score first :) we can't expect Davies to have another record season or Matt Taylor to get into double figures.

Megson obviously knows this and is trying to get someone to score the goals - his job could well depend on who he manages to bring because if we have to go with what we've got I think we'll struggle :(

I bloody hope not. We need someone to put it in the back of the net & unfortunately the current ones aren't.

I think he is too nice a guy with ED's money, he commented on not asking ED/PG for Messi/Ronaldo etc, but maybe he should be asking for more than he should; like BSA used to do.

Rather than being honest about it and then failing to capture the players he thought were within his budget. Aim high Gary, aim high!!

Can't really understand not buying a striker earlier. Unless he has been trying to achieve a top signing.

But, if we sacked him now, who would we bring in to get the best out of this squad with the window closed?

We've got him till next summer, like it or not.

I'm afraid this Megson must go campaign will have no effect. Pissing in the wind is what occurs to me.

I am sure some people said the same about Sammy Lee, or indeed about Paul Ince last season. Both were replaced and their teams stayed up!
