Got back from a long weekend yesterday afternoon, btw thanks for all the tips from fellow posters :good:

have to say that this was probably my 60th + trip to the USA since my first in 89 but my first stay in NY. So I was taken aback by the sheer cost of being there!!! $20 for a glass of wine and a beer seemed to be the norm and every meal in a restaurant was at least $150 for two and the most $270!

However the thing that got me was the first hand experience of the ever increasing British womans obsessive outlook on shopping in New York!!

The Virgin flight from Heathrow was 75% women heading out for one thing and that was shop til they dropped, they were buzzin and looked like they wuz high on somat, but having been there and in the stores on our last day whilst killing time for the late night flight back, I could not fathom why!!!???

The designer goods there can be bought cheaper in the UK or on any website if you are into that sort of self esteem verification badge or is it the need for walking around with the bags from certain stores???

Macy's seemed to be 90% full of tourist buying nowt and seemed tacky. Bloomingdales was better but not a patch on Harrods or IMO Hof in Manchester even though it was much larger. But there were even wimmin drooling about 2 hour coach rides out of Manhattan to some designer retail outlet and then 2 hours back????????????????

i cannot get me head round this and truly need enlightening can ww ladies or gayers please enlighten me?

btw Mrs BG ain't a big shopper either and does not understand it either.

Manny Road 58's the shopping guru: you'll need to ask him.

'I like your dress'

'Oh, I got it in NY, have I not told you about my trip to NY'

It's like walking around with a Harrords carrierbag

Women - Superficial

Men - Shallow

Women/shopping addicts might wonder why men go abroad simply to go out on the piss when you can do it here.

We're talking about a lads do in NY next year for example. Sounds like it won't be cheap.

Escapism and camaraderie?

JJ from what I saw, it aint the sort of place for a lads weekend unless you are truly truly loaded!!

The visiting english gals are in bed by 9pm fucked by shoppin for 12 hours, the locals wont look at you unless you are a celeb. To get to normal locals you would have to get out to New Jersey or Brooklyn. Better off in Orlando for that thing if you ask me or even better Chicago.

Amen brother.

If I ever turn gay I'll ring you up.

It didn't really strike me as a big drinking place either.

As for the shopping thing, unless it's a big discount compared to the UK, it must be like Widnes said and the fact you can boast your outfit is from NY.

You know how some people like to go on about places they've been on holiday.... :pardon:

I'm a woman & think on one of my better days I can outshop most of the other fairer sex & I don't get the going to NYC just to shop either. They see the price tag & think ooooh a bargain, then the taxes get put on at the till & I think these wimmin don't realise!

To be honest, there's very little you can't buy in Manchester these days & if so, there's a whole world of internet shopping out there & a returns policy.

Don't get me wrong, New York is great, but to go there just for the shopping? No thanks.

I like New York. It's got everything a chaps long weekend needs (Mucky) - but you'll need LOADS of cash.

Stay around the Italian/Chinese quarters and you'll be reet.

We're meeting up with a mate who lives in Minneapolis. Possibly people flying in from other places too so the venue does need to be of that ilk.

There must be parts of NY suitable for a lads do? Money wise, fuck it I dont care.

I'll bear that in mind, cheers

Absolutely spot on IMO, from my horrible experience on the flight back to Heathrow when me and the missus were 10 rows apart and i wus surrounded by these over excited shopoholics i can concur that it seems to be the badge of honour thingy "I have been to NY and done it!!!"

You might be better off meeting your mate in Minneapolis. Just as good as Chicago IMO.

They're usually the type who can't remember the last time they put a bit of Luther on & got a good fingering off their husband/boyfriend!

I've been to New York once and I intend to go back with the girls in the next couple of years.

There will be no shopping. That would be my idea of hell. I tend to shop alone as I am in and out of the shops, no messing. I also know what I'm going for. I can't stand going with friends and waiting for them to try things on and coo over every item.

There's too much to see and do in New York. The inside of a store is not on my agenda.

Yeah I visited him earlier this year. Uptown seemed a great place for a pissup.

Most of the people going have young families and are struggling enough to get the time (aiming for 4 days) as it is.

Against Minneapolis is time in connecting airport and another flight.

Went last year with work and had a couple of nights on the piss. One in the Italian quarter, where we happened to stumble across a Floridian bar full of college girls, and one in the Meat Packing District (I think that's what it's called!!) - that was really expensive but one of the best nights I've ever had. Definitely not true about needing to be a celeb to get female attention - you just need an English accent. Not having a face like a bashed crab helps too...

You know how some people like to go on about places they've been on holiday.... :pardon:

I do but Smiley doesn't. <_<

By the way I like New York in June. How about you?
