4-4-2 Formation

I think it has been really refreshing GM's change of formation from 4-3-3/4-5-1 to 4-4-2.

I've always liked BWFC playing 2 up front with 2 wingers.

Chungy has been a relevation with an injection of pace to the side.I'm a huge fan of Matty Taylor but he looks unfit at the moment.Prefer Ricky on the other wing.

With Klasnic giving great support to Kev Davies we look more of an attacking threat at the moment.

Should get more fans back at the Reebok with our style of play.

Onwards and upwards :drinks:

No he just looks shit at the moment..

The last 3 games especially Taylor has been anonymous, even his set pieces have been very poor. Comon megson, grow some balls and drop him, if he throws a paddy get rid in Jan.

Is that part of a masterplan or a throw of the dice of a man under pressure?

Interesting also that our only decent results come after players 'clear the air ' meetings with themselves, did they decide on 442. Kev Davies informing us that latest one was just before the City game, as though the players have sorted out themselves. The question is therefore what does Mr Megson do to earn his wages. Discuss.

FFS. Best set piece mon we have. Yes, his form goes up and down like every other player but 'get rid'????

I am picturing a goal he scored at West Ham last season. Don't get rid.

You're becoming quite tedious now.

Give it a rest.

He needs a rest Bolty his former is pretty poor at the moment BUT in playing 4-4-2 he is the type of player you need in a wide position if your playing a winger on the other side. Taylor can tuck in and cover as well as getting forward BUT on the other hand we are fortunate to have another player in Gardner who can do a similar job. Will be interesting over Christmas what Megson does with the Taylor v Gardner selection choice as our manager seems to like both of them.

For those who have watched the development of Megson rather than de-credit him from the off, you'll have seen a long-term plan to his selections and purchases. The Times article yesterday pointed out that of the team he took over from Sammy Lee only Diouf and Anelka of the 10 outfield players are still performing in The Premiership, that is how much of a rebuilding job he encounted.

IMO the 4-4-2 we see today has always been a long-term plan but only now does he have the right blend of players to make it work.

Regarding Matt Taylor - he's a good player, but does seem to be blowing out of his arse very quickly at the moment and that's contributing to his lack of form - I'd liken it to when Kevin Nolan had his "heavy" spells.

Formation - the 4-4-2 is great at home, although on Tuesday we did revert to 4-1-4-1 as soon as we went 2-1 up, which (although we scored a third) generally tends to heap more pressure on us as we really struggle retaining possession when we play like that

Yeah I agree, I like the 4-4-2. I hate seeing Matt Taylor on the right hand side. Wasted!!!!

Drop him, competition for places is healthy.

i think if you check the stats matt taylor is the player that runs the most in the team.

by playing 4-4-2 he is being asked to do more running which may make it seem that he is now 'unfit'

We have gone from a team that could nt keep clean sheets and did nt look like scoring to a team that can n't keep clean sheets.

That is progress in my eyes. We have a way to go yet so no one should feel safe but he stays in for me.

Sorry Ian, but you can do lots of running without being at peak fitness...as with Nolan (during the period mentioned before), Taylor still chugs about an awful lot, but it's monopaced & renders him much less effective - real "match fitness" is when you're as quick as you can be in short sharp sprints

He looked unfit in 4-5-1 too, so that's not a particularly valid excuse and anyway in a 4-5-1 he should do as much running as there's more responsibility to support the lone striker in said formation.

As for the team, progress looks to have been made, but West Ham are/were dreadful...Wigan and Burnley will tell much of if/how we've progressed for me

Megson has 'earned' his wages by playing 442 quite often this season.

discuss. :pardon:

after a quick look the only game we haven't played 442 recently was wolves as Davies was suspended

I dont believe it would have been wise to play 442 until Lee & Klasnic got to the pace of the premier league. Now that theyve found their feet I think (hopefully} it will give the manager more options & his masterplan will come to fruition!

lets not talk about progress, masterplans and megson earning his wages while we are level with wolves and below hull eh?
