Any Chance Of A Rugby League Sub Forum.

Featured Replies

Many thanks for WW giving us NL fans a sub forum, its proving quite popular. With the RL season getting under way, can i be cheeky in asking for a voice for the many RL fans in our region to have a Sub Forum on WW ?

  • No it's fucked.   Too many Aussies taking too much money out of the game and not enough clubs developing British talent in key positions to a standard where we can beat the Aussies.   Take the Sky

  • Mick, you going to Barrow Leyth on Saturday?   Kick off fotched forward to 5.30.   Fucks my plan up of leaving OT a bit early and getting up to Barrow for 6.30 for a double header.

total respect, but............why?

total respect, but............why?

Why ? Because with the amount of posters whose posts gets lodged between football and rugby, it just seems a good idea, and with our respective codes overlapping. Why not.

Are those nobbers over in Wiggin going to piss it again this year?

any particular team we should get behind?

At a guess, with a name like "Leigh White" he'll want us to be supporting Wigan in the top division ;)

Didn't Saints always have a link with Bolton in the past?

I like this Peebs, the last train back from Lime St bound for Manchester, on that glorious night at Anfield was indeed packed with lads sporting Bolton colours who baled off at St Helens.

Dont mind the Rugby league. A mate of mine plays for Harlequins.

Watch any game thats on though Super League or NRL, follow Wigan for geographical reasons :pardon:

when i say follow i mean from my Armchair

When Rugby League gets exciting and interesting to watch then that's when it should get it's own sub forum.

Aye 1 or 2 well known lads from over that way now I think about it LW.

Mr Bear is a big Saints fan too. Never been that into RL, was watching Quins v Huddersfield til little un stuck Disney on :nea:

Did Warrington used to have a firm?

I see where LW is coming from and I'd sooner watch a bad game of RL than a good game of football but lets not fuck about here - it's a football forum.

Dare I ask, what about an average game of RU?

Some is good (like those who try and play rugby by scoring tries).

The rest is wank.

That was a far more sensible answer than I was expecting......if I'm honest

I kept it short because I know anything more will reignite the 'Smiffs and Bolty spend the next 4 days debating the merits of the two codes of rugby' debate for the 43rd time. :D

I have always followed Leyth cos me grandad has and still watches them religously, he used to take me as a kid to academey games and all sorts, I watched Leigh more as a kid than Bolton, then one of my best mates signed for Leigh, my gramps were made up :)

are Leigh still a proper rugby club in thier own right, or are they now an academy/feeder for Widnes/Wigan/Saints etc?

Must. Not. Bite.

Must. Not. Bite.

I am asking a serious question......

go on, you know you want to........

Leyth are still a club in their own right playing in the Championship (one below Super League).

However, to get into SL you need to win a 3 year franchise. There is no automatic promotion or relegation. This has walloped interest ouside of SL - our attendances now hover at a 2000 hardcore. Our average in SL (when we got dicked every week) was over 5000.

The last lot were handed out 2 years ago and despite applying with the newest ground in the game were overlooked in favour of some Welsh village outfit who went bust the year after then relocated to Wrexham and went bust again the year after that.

The biggest stink though was Widnes who should have walked in with the backing of a multi millionaire and a great stadium but Sky (who run the game) wanted a Welsh outfit to make the game 'national'

So we're forever in the shadows of Wigan Saints and Wire playing our game outside of the top flight becuase there is no promotion or relegation - Sky The Rugby Football League pick who they want in SL by using ever changing and clouded criteria that is bent to fit what they want, and fuck the rest. The RFL then brought in the Dual Contract system which means we can sign fringe player from a SL club (up to 4) and if they are not playing for their team that week they play with us but the SL club pays the majority of the wages. They groom their fringe players in a competition far greater than reserve grade rugby and Championship clubs get SL quality players. Its a glorified loan system that Coyle uses with Strrdge/Wilshire.

Clubs like us are just an inconvenience, diluting the support base for SL clubs. The RFL would be happy for clubs outside of SL to just fuck off and die so long as they have a London and Welsh club in and keep getting the ?100m from Sky every 3 years or so then they think the world is all rosy.

Smiffs, all my joking aside, you know I work up in Leyth once or twice a week. I don't pretend to know about RL, as I have lived in a big RU area for yonks now. I know folk who have been Leyth fans for years who were resigned to the fact that they were never going to be SL, because of the "rules" which were already set and it was decided that an amount of Frogs needed to be let in, as well as some Welsh.........and the kicker is/was that they can not be relegated.

Can Leigh Centurions ever become SL?
