Yesterday was yet another dire performance under Coyle,no different than most games last season. No system, no idea. But do you honestly think Coyle should need to, QUOTE, try and motivate them in the first game of the season.

Up to them scoring their offside goal there was little between the teams. That goal made all the difference. After that we just got progressively worse. In the end it was embarassing to watch.

Mavies didn't create anything yesterday, he could have played another game after that one and still created fuck all.

Firstly, Mark Davies' 'performance' yesterday was an embarrassment (granted he wasn't alone).

The game is not about systems it is about players and those players knowing their roles and how they fit in with the organisation of the team. For a so called attacking team with a manager known for his attacking mentality we create very few chances and do not score enough goals. We seem to go on the field with no apparent plan except to play with a high tempo and to find a white shirt as quickly as possible this leads to us giving the ball way too frequently. The two attackers yesterday did not play as a partnership and did not keep close to each other therfore there was no up front link play. The two centre mids were swamped and could not retain the ball therfore cutting the supply off to our two excellent wide men, who incidentaly are not encouraged to come inside or change wings leaving them virtual passengers. Therefore our defence is placed under enormous pressure and eventually will concede goals. The central defenders are encouraged to play the ball out to midfield, but who to? The midfielders are already under severe pressure and the amount of times possession was lost here was outrageous and places the defence under even more pressure.. I think you could put the best two central defenders in the premier leauge under this system and they would struggle to succeed. We have been seeing these tactics far too long now and quite clearly they do not work, teams can negate our ball players by flooding the midfield and working hard and since the Stoke semi final under this management we have lost far too may games.

 

For example recently a video has been added to the site from 1976, the Oldham match. Look at the side this was a very attacking formation, two wingers Thompson and Morgan, two forwards and goals supplied throughout the side. Even taking into account the Allardyce and Rioch area, for 3 to 4 years this team played fantastic football. In Roy Greaves we had the link man from defence to midfield (this team does not have one and I don't think the manager even wants to play one) we had two strikers in this case Jones and Whatmore working hard and as a pair, Reid was a grafter with a touch of class, Jones and Allardyce scored a lot of goals fron centre-half, and this made for a well organised team with a simple playing method who played fantastic football and won a lot of games.

 

I quite simply do not see this from our team, since Allardyce left we have had too many managers, but Mr Coyle is way out of his depth and he ether needs to go or needs experineced help, this needs to happen quickly. With ten games to go last season looking at our fixtures, when compared to QPR and Wigan, he should have been able to pick a team and formation that should have enabled us to stay up. But with his stubbourness and tactical ineptitude manged to fritter a decades hard work. I find this hard to forgive!!

I don't criticise our players lightly. But it is my opinion that Darren pratley is very very average at best. He an amalgam of skills all of which are not quite good enough, even at Championship level, I think

He he not quite: skillfull, strong, quick, big, determined or aware enough. That in my book makes him. Rubbish.

apart from one or two exceptions our squad is at best average, thats partly why we are where we are. pratley and the rest of the team should feel let down , those average players plus the bits of quality we do possess could and should be guided into a compact and competent unit.
