August 19, 201312 yr Yep, most weekends, Good for during the day watching footy etc, there isnt much happening at night.
August 19, 201312 yr Yep, most weekends, Good for during the day watching footy etc, there isnt much happening at night. Unless you get the train to Chorley and kick on round AJs...
August 19, 201312 yr i heard all the landlords agreed on a price fix and no pub was to sell cheap beer but now christine from the bridge is on her way and is going to sell cheap beer
August 19, 201312 yr Yep Top spinners is my local, decent pub, then there is The Spinners arms, aka bottom spinner
August 19, 201312 yr Author bottom spinner any good? decent landlord? thats the one opposite train station apparently which is how ill be arriving?
August 19, 201312 yr i heard all the landlords agreed on a price fix and no pub was to sell cheap beer but now christine from the bridge is on her way and is going to sell cheap beer Aye. Crazy Christine is Aggy bound to thelephant. We have the odd sup round there. It's alright. Bottom Spinners does food.
August 19, 201312 yr Aye. Crazy Christine is Aggy bound to thelephant. We have the odd sup round there. It's alright. Bottom Spinners does food. I went in the Ele a few weeks back, it looked and smelt like a motorbikers pub, they had Meat Loaf playing on full volume. Whos is this Crazy Christine? I agree that It can be quite pricey, Top Spinners is 3:20 for Fosters

August 19, 201312 yr She had the Bridge in H. Munich. I went to the Saddle last week up in H, decent boozer that now just over 2 quid a pint, the same owners have Pearsons in Chorley, both are fantastic for the footy

August 19, 201312 yr Top Spinners is a reet good craic, especially if there's a singer on. Bottom Spinners is also good, the White Bear and Cardwell are both passable. May be worth avoiding the Elephant as best you can. It's been taken over multiple times and has a rough reputation regardless of who's in charge.
August 19, 201312 yr My mate Dave goes in one of the spinners can't remember which one but he is never out of there
August 19, 201312 yr If your after sampling real ales ales I'd suggest it's worth heading up the hill first to the Top Spinners which has 4 pumps then back down to the bottom end as the only other pub up there is the Elephant unless you want a 5 - 10 min walk to the Cardwell and White Horse or a 20 min walk further up the hill to the Bay Horse. No idea what they have on in the Elephant but I'd expect the same people to be in the same spots as last time I was in about 8 years ago with the addition of evictees from the Ridgeway as it's been a local's pub since I started drinking in there as a 14 year old, Christine is now in residence I believe. Be interesting to see if she breaks the price monopoly, can be a funny place Aggy. Bottom Spinners has a good selection of ales on and you've got the White Bear, not a bad selection, and also The Bridge near the Marina. If your not into real ales then all that is irrelevant. Some more info here . He misses out the Elephant completely!
August 19, 201312 yr As has been mentioned, the top spinners is a really nice boozer, probably the best in the village. Good for football on a saturday afternoon. The bridge, bottom spinners and a bit further away the white horse are also worth a visit. If you want a quiet place with some decent food then the bay horse up babylon lane on the way to Rivington is nice. The white bear is good during the day but rough at night. Don't know what the elephant is like now it has a new landlady, but it was as rough as it has ever been when I last went in about 6 weeks ago. There uses to be 12 pubs in the village and it was a good day out trying to fit in all of them. Sadly, four have shut down in as many years.
August 19, 201312 yr May be worth avoiding the Elephant as best you can. It's been taken over multiple times and has a rough reputation regardless of who's in charge. elephant will be reet once Christine gets in. She might be a DMB but she had decent ale in and no ruffians.
August 20, 201312 yr If Christine changes it she'll be the first one in 40 years. Been the same since Phyllis used to rattle her teeth in her mouth and legs in her boots at the same time.
August 20, 201312 yr Christine knows what she is doing but she has her work cut out with the elly. Top and bottom Spinners are the best IMO, Cardwell is ok too.
August 20, 201312 yr fuck that I know, but unless you are having a skin full there is no point heading over to Chorley or Horwich for cheaper ale, you will pay more on getting home
August 20, 201312 yr Can't see Christine doing anything with the Elephant, plenty have tried and failed. There are no real ale drinkers that go in there and I think the cellar is very deep so it's a long way for the pipes to travel, so any attempt at decent beer in the past has failed miserably. Top Spinners in main for me but bottom is decent too, both have been BWFC pubs traditionally too which helps
August 20, 201312 yr And there's no price monopoly. Until recently the Elephant sold lager until 8pm at £2 a pint, but it was still a hovel that everyone avoided. The only monopoly is Enterprise owning half the pubs and the rates they charge meaning its difficult to sell the beer cheaper, but that's been done before on another thread

Steve who runs the bottom spinners is a big wanderers fan.
