Wanderersways Christmas Quiz

As there's been no Saturday football of great interest, I've set a 10 question quiz. Others things being equal, answers will be confirmed late on Boxing Day. And yes, one prize is available.

Q1: What did Bolton Wanderers do in the FA Cup in the 1880s which no other club has done since, nor ever will (although Nottingham Forest almost did so by 1922)?

Q2: Which team has played several FA Cup finals with 2 Captains in their team?

Q3: Which was the first FA Cup winning team to field capped players from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

Q4: Which clubs contested the only FA Cup tie to be contested on Christmas Day?

Q5: Which was the first City club to play in the FA Cup?

Q6: Which was the first United club to play in the FA Cup?

Q7: Which was the first Lancashire club to reach an FA Cup semi-final?

Q8: Name the last 5 FA Youth Cup winning players to go on to represent Bolton Wanderers.

Q9: Name 5 FA Youth Cup finalists from earlier this century to go on to represent Bolton Wanderers.

Q10: Name at least 5 FA Youth Cup finalists from the 20th century to go on to represent Bolton Wanderers.

Change of mind..... Spurs? Thinking of Pat Jennings

Spurs did do it with Jennings in 1967, but they had previously done it in both 1961 and 1962 with Danny Blanchflower as the Nor'n Ireland man.

But they were not the first teams to win the FA Cup fielding capped internationals from the four home countries.

Q3. Dmb

Q5 Stoke?

Q9 Neil Danns @ Blackburn? (Malc's cryptic "fancy" clue helped)

Q10 Ian Walker & Gerry Taggart definitely

And I'm sure Dave Sutton played as a striker for Stoke in the early 80's when they had a good youth set up, but whether he or they ever made the final, I don't know.

I also recall hearing something during a Leicester game about Ian Marshall & Robbie Savage (not our RS!!) both having won the FA Youth Cup,, whether that's true or not, I'm not sure. But marshall played for us.

Do you seriously think that question would have been chosen if that were the answer? :angry2:

Q5 has been answered on the previous page - Lincoln. Stoke didn't adopt the name City until 1925, when Stoke-on-Trent achieved city status.

Q9:Neil Danns is correct (2001, alongside Walters), which completes the set.

Q10: Ian Walker (1990), Gerry Taggart (1989) and Ian Marshall (1984 & 1983) are all correct, so added to John O'Kane and David Thompson, Traf has supplied 5 correct names [but there is still one which no-one has put forward].

Q3: Still outstanding. One team did it before Spurs' 1961.

Q10) Paul Wheatcroft?

Q10) Paul Wheatcroft?

 Already been tried. No

Earlier than any of the others (but the Youth Cup only began in 1952-53 season).

Malc,

Can you check out about Dave Sutton?

I'm fairly sure he played in a Youth Cup final up front for Stoke. I think it was mentioned in the BEN & Bolton match programme when we signed him.

I can remember shit from the 80's and 90's, but not what happened last week!

Right, fuck it.

if we;re using Wikipaedo : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Youth_Cup_Finals_of_the_1980s

Go to Everton v Stoke 1983/84 and see who played upfront for Stoke and click his name and tell me if it's not our Dave Sutton.

It's not Bolton's Dave Sutton, although wiki has a false link to him born 1957. He is far too old for the Youth Cup of 1984, and indeed he is shown as being at Plymouth as a youth.

The Stoke Dave Sutton is, I think, the Director of Football (!!) at nearby Newcastle Town - and was still on the bench as a player last season at the age of 47.

Thinking outside of the box Cardiff probably didn't have a full team of Welsh players so I'll give them a punt.

Almost, but not quite!

Cardiff's FA Cup winning team included 7 capped players - 2 Welsh, 1 Scottish and 4 Northern Irish, but no English.
