Darren Handley

Plenty will know him from local footy, from Daisy Hill and a Wanderers fan he's been appointed into the list of referees for next season for Championship, League 1 & 2

Of course it wasn't for me to say!

Went watching a match on Wednesday and Albert was reffing..must be nearing 70 now.

I always found him okay to be honest...

Albert was still reffing at bolton arena 5s a couple years back. It's worrying when the refs got jam jar glasses on!

Albert used to do premier fives.

Seemed to be oreet

This is great news, We need more Alberts to keep grass roots football going, he will be proud as punch that Darren has made this step up. Look forward to congratulating him. Not seen Darren for years, hadn't realised he was progressing as a ref so much.

That award must go to Paddy Johnson, he threatened to book me for shouting 'he's off ref'. I used to dread getting him.

Bugger me that brings back memories every credit to Darren I was at primary school remember him and Albert the collective groan that went round when we knew he was reffing all light hearted though good luck to em

Bloody hell! That's brought back some memories. I remember playing in a Sunday League game back in the 1970's. I shook Paddy's hand leaving the pitch and said 'Not one of your better ones, Paddy' and he tried to punch me. He apologised later. Which was nice.

He reffed us a lot in the 80s and 90s and asked me to give him a lift home after the game, think he lived pansy road area, promptly sent one of our lads off and gave a dodgy penalty I gave him some stick on the way home I can tell you.

not on the elite list?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Albert

He used to coach Daisy Hill youth teams too. Put a lot of time and effort into local footie... good lad. No offence, but presume Darren's lost a shed load of weight to get to Championship reffing level... was a big unit at school! Was a decent player as a kid... a bit Tony Kelly ish. Good luck to him.

Harwood's Lee a Mason is reffing the championship play off final this year

He's not from Harwood, he's from Manchester. Well he is if you're an Irish prick from Liverpool
