I did think River Street, but they're 'gentrified' (ha) it recently and thought they (the Council) may have shifted an actually worthwhile and profitable business...

I did get some timber from a skip t'other day, I was on my way to Axfords and went past a house renovation, five foot of pristine (new and freshly cut) four bi two sticking out of the skip, so no need for the trip into Farnworth.

 

Some of the waste on some sites is disgraceful, if I was funding these projects I'd be clipping some ears and punting some backsides (with foot) I tell you.

 

And you may mock, but Cat litter is a dessicant par excellence, not much use for owt else like.

Well, how would you promote The Merchants' Quarter with pesky old fashioned businesses (and the oldest business ) like that around? Good for the regenerators.

Last lot I got was from here http://diamondglassworks.co.uk/ - very basic website! but service and price was excellent.

I rang those (DiamondGlass) after trying River Street to no avail - dead line (their 'home' button on their site has a bad url too).

 

Anyhow, I made my enquiries with Diamond, as the site doesn't say much, the bloke said "We have a website because you have to, but we prefer to talk to people." which I liked.

 

They shut early doors Friday though, so, after faffing with RSG, I was too late to get down there, so Monday it is.

Elsworths in firwood ind est off thicketford road can supply your wood but I think they're shut on Saturdays.

If you end up going in person, it's proper old school. Park in their spaces at either end of the building if you can, double yellows everywhere and the wardens were "on it" when I went.

Fitting it was another matter, currently looks like a mentalist has attacked the window with toothpaste (white silicon), thank fuck for loose stanley knife blades - I'll make it good the cowboy way tomorrow, with good owd fashioned linseed oil putty (or is what I did today the cowboy way?)

Got sorted here today, cheers. They're another place from a fast disappearing type of world, use them or lose them (although business looked pretty brisk to be honest) - a proper old school woodyard, half the price of clueless shithouses B+Q and probably twice the quality. Some nice houses nearby too, which reinforces my belief you're never that far from a shithole or a smart gaff in Bolton...(unless you live in the sticks, and stick to your own).

Assuming its wooden frames, there's nowt cowboy about putty!

It'd look daft without finishing with putty, though I've sealed the glass with silicon first as putty will recede a bit as it dries/cures - I think double bubble never did any harm regarding keeping water ingress at bay.

 

They'll look pretty good, hopefully ,when finished, which isn't bad saying the last time I actually made sommat from wood I was in school.

 

New UPVC units would've cost two and a half grand, I've probably spent three hundred and fifty on stuff to fix/replace parts - if it buys me a couple of years I'll be happy.
