For example we could leave the EU and have free movement and free trade like Norway & Switzerland. In this circumstance the majority decision of leaving the EU will have been met but would people be happy with it? I guess not

 

What the leave camp said doesn't mean fuck all, the £350m to the NHS, a full hard BREXIT, at the end of the day they have fuck all to do with anything just like the remain camp

 

What matters is what's on the ballot paper, Should the U.K. leave the EU

 

Folk can say BREXIT means BREXIT all they want, BREXIT can mean 1,000 different outcomes that are all the UK leaving the EU and the majority decision being honoured

 

It shouldn't be a tombola machine that decides which of the thousands of options we go for, or should it be for a handful of MP's to decide what they fancy. It should be worked through by Parliament like everything else even if it's behind closed doors as such

 

IMO the ballot paper should have asked a series of questions such as free movement yes / no. Free trade yes / no, full membership yes / no. Soverignity yes / no - then there would have been a true mandate. But unfortunately it didn't so it's a fucking mess

 

Wouldn't be difficult to do this for pretty much everything with today's tech - we could have a voting app

 

What margin counts as a majority is debatable though.  60/40 seems like a reasonable figure to me.

Aye.  I'm not in favour of the death penalty.  I'm assuming you aren't either.  

 

That's my own view though - if the overriding will of a society, that pay taxes etc, is to implement it though then that should happen imo.  Again, what denotes a majority is debatable and should be more than 51%.

 

It's also why I think communities should be more self-governed.  As you might find that the folk of Bolton are more 'blood hungry' than say the carrot munchers down here in Bristol   

 

If I trusted MPs to be both willing and able to implement the will of the masses then i'd be happier with the current/historical system.  My experiences tell me they aren't and possibly never have been.

 

It's also why I feel education is so important.  Teaching children to think for themselves is more important than any factual knowledge or what have you imo.   That way the public can make informed decisions based on the evidence before them and what the majority consider in the best interests of all.   You can't please everyone but that's the point isn't it?  

 

It makes me laugh how folk seem to think the idea of letting the public create/pass legislation is the most bat shit crazy idea imaginable.  (not your point to be fair Casino)  We're happy to let Joe public send people to prison . . .

I would vote for the restoration of the death penalty but only for a few selected offences. Such as scousers riding a bike without lights after dark.

Restore it for anyone darker complexioned than Caramel Cream on the Dulux Colour Charts - if they're simple then that's even better...

 

Remove potential miscarriages of justice in the case of your Phil Brown types by imprisoning these offenders for an appropriate 'lightning' time before the sentence is carried out (or, more likely, commuted).
