So my virgin deal is up shortly and I begrudge paying £90 pm

now I’m not arsed about the whole package it came as the Mrs got the offer so really it’s sports & internet (currently on virgins M500 whatever that means)

yeah basially mate

internet, an app called IPTV smarters and £30 a 1/4

they'll be other deals out there etc... but i've had my nearly 3 years and never had an issue with it

no buffering, not been closed down etc...

I think Zico is still on the same priovider

Does IOTV have Ultra HD, recording ability and live pause/rewind etc same as SkyQ?

Also, does it have all the boxsets and catch up stuff?

If so, might be time for me to change as well.

I use mustard smarters iptv. 4k firestick or nvidia shield and bt broadband. If you can get BT fibre, I'd always go with them, I've been in telecoms for over 20 yrs.

depends what you can get. Go on bt.com and put your address in, and it will bring speed and  deals up. Sky, ee, talk talk, post office etc is BT wholesale bband plugged into an inferior core network in the exchange, so in essence, discount, lower quality BT. Breaks more often, takes longer to get fixed, higher chance of bandwidth/ latency issues.

Virgin have their own network.

Yeah I did that earlier can get full fibre starting at £26 for 35mb-36, currently on virgins M500 but been having problems

You'll need to decide if 35mb is good enough for what you are doing in your house, M500 is adverstised as a lot faster than that

So, everything other than Virgin, is using the same 'wiring'

 

Fwiw, I'd love Virgin but can only have BT here, Sky BB actually, but the BT cabling

Best I can get is 22meg as the nearerst box is in another time zone.

my 22, while bot what I'd want, holds up well enough inc the lads 24/7 xbox

Biggest issue we have is if we have folk round and they're on our Internet....we have about 20 devices of our own and the sonos struggle

 

How long before everybody is using 5g for home Internet

The wirirng is the same from your house to the cabinet, and often onto the exchange, but then takes a different pathway once in the exchange and onwards, depending on which provider you are with - this is called the core network.

Imagine that the wiring between your house is a B road  and the core network is a motorway -

Some of the motorways have 10 lanes, no traffic jams, lots of exit roads for diversions and links to other motorways, and ongoing maintenence

Other motorways have 2 lanes, not so many exit roads, more traffic jams, queues to get on and off,  and not as much maintenence going on.

There might be a higher speed limit on the 2 laned motorway, but this doesn't me you'll get a better experience all of the time.

And then my home wiring is all over the place, so the plug thing i bought for juniors room only works in certain sockets 

finally about 4 months ago, virgin agreed to come and dig

but didnt turn up

Virgin are decent if you dont have any issues, I've had them several times in the past, and before that when it was telewest - if you do have an issue (and plenty customers do), they can be a nightmare  - I've had a customer without service for over a year, and customers with repeated ongoing issues for years, loads of engineer horror stories - as a business we no longer provide their services - not worth the hassle, we were spending more time chasing up Virgin than anything else.

I've got Virgin broadband and their most basic TV package. I've also got IPTV on a firestick that costs £30 per year.

@radcliffewhite1 if you want to see how the IPTV works, nip round to Tom's. I set his up for him.

Had virgin since we moved in but had internet problems on the last few months 

bt have been doing work around Turks road area  for ages a neighbour reckons his bt Internet is shit hot as we are on the main cable path or something (could be chatting) 

Can't remember tbh. Think it's between £30 - £35.

we get 40mb ish, on BT business broadband, which is better still than residential - at the moment we have 4 laptops, 4 mobiles, 2 xboxes, 3 firesticks, 3 amazon echos, 2 ipads, 2 Tvs all connected at various times together throughout the day and works fine for us - get the odd "this internet is crap" shout from one of the kids in a remote room when playig fifa every now and again, bu think thats the wifi more than the bband

if you're near to cabinet it reduces the length of the copper from the cabinet to your house - theoretically, the  shorter the copper line, the better the bandwidth - the cabling from the cabinet onwards to the exchange and out onto the internet is fibre - doesn't matter how long the fibre line is

for a normal household that sounds ample mate, if you go down the IPTV route its always better if you can get your android device (4k firsetick or better) wired into the router instead of using wifi. You can buy an ethernet adaptor for a firestick for example.

If you go iptv, and they have a support team, ask them what android device they recommend - some of the ones on sale on amazon/ebay are shite, and might not work in the near future
