99 times out of 100 a proper death bowler (T.Curran) would've been used to bowl final over.

IMO Morgan was trying to be too clever.

 

So you think Curran was guaranteed to bowl a last over without conceding the ten runs?

Just having a better chance (in your opinion but not in the England Skipper’s) doesn’t mean much.

What I'm saying is that there is a reason why 99 times out 100 a death bowler is chosen to bowl the last over rather than a spinner, albeit a world class one.

Hope that makes sense....

if the choice of bowler had been the same but successful, or if it had been different and successful, the skipper would’ve been praised. If a different bowler had been given the final over but bombed, skipper would get shit. 
 

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 

Not talking out of hindsight. I was listening and the intakes of breath and clearly surprised commentators suggested it was a massive gamble. Its also unusual to have a spinner bowl the last over, particularly one who hadn't had his best game. Whereas the death bowler from the previous game who did very well then, had also looked pretty decent in this one too.

Of course, it could have worked, but it was a weird one.

I don’t doubt it but what I’m saying is that the skipper must’ve thought a spinner would/could make sure Australia would be limited to singles. The first ball of that over going for a six was probably the point at which he wondered if he’d fucked up.
