I need to find the best broadband deal around very quickly, but I don't want cable!

 

The problem is that the company I last worked for, installed BT Business Broadband in my house for me and they were responsible for the bills of course. They went bust last January and I lost my job, but the broadband never went off!

 

So, I've had free broadband since January, but BT have sent me a letter this morning saying that after and audit, it appears that the line has NEVER been billed since installation 4 years ago. They accept it's their responsibility and that I'm only liable for the last quarter's bill.

 

But before I agree to pay them and take over the contract, I'd thought I'd ask the collection of genius minds that makes up the WWays forums for their advice / help/ mindless abuse etc.

How much downloading is 2GB?

not massive, but if all you download is your e-mails and stuff, then you'll be fine.

 

If you download loads of music, films, programs etc. then it won't be any good for you.

i download 2gb in the time it takes me 2 shit.

Right, I wanna download music tracks and various other things, not loads every day but maybe a couple of hours every other day / weekend etc.

8mbit line, no limits, was ??15 a month, but deals keep changing...

 

but beware their customer service is the WORST i have EVER come across...

 

i tried to upgrade my current bulldog connection to 8mbit, but the indian call centre (which called 5 times to sell me adsl, after i said yes the 1st time) could not accept that i already had ADSL and it just wanted upgrading. I DID NOT WANT ANOTHER ADSL LINE!!!

 

took them 6 weeks to realise i didnt have a good enough line anyway to get any more that 1mbit

 

oh and theyve sent me 4 adsl modems, so if anyone wants one, let me know...

Wanapiggindo are a pain in the ??rse! Have sent me a modem, filters etc and have started charging me as apparently my line is sorted yet the thing won't work. Spent 2hrs on to some Indian bird the other night and after all that couldn't tell me what was wrong with it...

Just gone on broadband myself after spending ages looking for a good deal.

 

I wanted a good speed connection, no download limits and a reasonable price. I went on with Tiscali, on their 2Mb package, 17.99 a month.

When I told a couple of friends I'd signed up for Tiscali, their faces dropped as if to say "You fool". But I've been on for a couple of weeks now and had no problem.

 

The only thing you would need to watch out for though is their Fair Usage Policy. Don't go hammering the downloads between 6 and 11pm weekdays, 4-8Pm weekends. Otherwise they will contact you asking you to calm your downloading down a bit.

 

Loads of companies have 2Gb limits, which is a bit stingy if your wanting to download music, useless if you want to download films and video clips.

 

Oh yeah, Tiscali give you a free modem and the connection is free. Although I've been told their customer support is bobbins. Never used it but its apparetnly controlled by our Commonwealth Cousins.

Well, apparently there's a fault logged with BT so it's the line that aint right as far as mine is concerned so still no internet at home (unless I piggyback opnto someone elses using the wireless thingymybob :-$ )...

Just gone with Pipex for ??19.99 a month for 6 months, ??23.99 after. Free modem and connection and no 12 month contract (although you have to pay a fee of ??53 if you cancel within 12 months)

2MB and no download limit :D/

 

No problems so far but their customer service is supposed to be pretty good according to Which?
