January 5, 20224 yr Muslim woman who worked for me for years steadfastedly refused to accede to her parents’ wishes. Her older sister and three brothers all went into arranged marriages. She waited til she was about 40 and met someone and married him. She always used to complain that all the “decent men” had been forced into arranged marriages. She’s a devout Muslim but completely refused to accept an arranged marriage. I’d say yeah a sign of the times

At University there was a beautiful muslim girl who we had flirtations and daft dates, she was a model and on the sides of buses but she was resigned she'd end up with a 'mango' a rich kid from Pakistan. Usually thick as mince and pampered. We both knew it was futile so never took it to the next point. Proper Romeo and Juliet affair. Except we didn't top ourselves.
