right to die

dunno if any of you folks have noticed, but a lot of controversy in last couple of weeks regarding euthanasia.

do you want the right to die if life becomes unbearable?? does this mean physical pain or emotional pain to.

if you had a terminal illness etc and your family understand your wishes, should they then be able to assist your end without geting prosecuted etc??

or do you simply believe that when your times up, then its up, and you shouldnt try to speed up nature??

several areas for debate with regards to children and elderly who may not be able to state what they want, or be able to communicate it to other people,

who should have the last say? the individual, the family? doctors? lawyers?

and why do i decide to muse over this when i should be enjoying my tea?????????

fair enough then mr q, but the law says you cant decide that for yourself. what do you think about that then???

they should change the law, and let me have a ??20 lethal injection rather than fork out what could turn out to be about ??250.000 keeping me alive when i dont want to be here. the pricks.

Your nasty Mr Casino.

The right to die? In principle it's a great idea, terminally ill person unable to speak, walk and wipe own arse so what's the point of hanging around and costing the state money, and the family heartache? It is full of ambiguity so will never happen, more chance of getting the death penalty reintroduced. Mercy killings are the way forward. The only problem with this is that you could find yourself in the dock because the will says you inherited everything.

Euthanasia should be lawful in this country under very strict rules as it already is in other countries (holland I think but I'm not sure)

One of the criteria should be that your mind is in a fit state to decide for yourself. e.g. "if I become incpapable of X.Y and Z then pull the trigger"

There should be no criteria applied to Man Ure, Trashmere, Bury and Middlesbrough fans, not to mention Jackburn etc. :D

Did you forget garp

Everybody in the world has a right to live.

Therefore, by the same token, we should all have the right to die in dignity. Provided safeguards are in place to stop Shipman-type people helping pensioners to an early grave, I see no reason why we shouldn't have the authority to have our lives terminated at a time best suited to us.

Many people live in a vegetative state and cannot cope alone, nor can they perform the simplest of tasks. Is that really life? Or are they just waiting until the day they die? If people are genuinely suffering and death is the only inevitable outcome, why not speed up the process and put them out of their misery? After all, we do it to our pets. when their time is up.

There you go, missus c: a sensible contribution!

thanks traff, !!!!

youre right with your comment about pets, if you know your dog/cat etc is on its last legs, is suffering intolerable pain, then we do 'the right thing' and have it peacefully put to sleep, in the company of someone who loves it holding its paw etc.

several euthanasia stories in the news recently, a man who helped his wife travel to holland for assisted suicide has been sensationally cleared of all charges as the judge declared it was not illegal to travel to another country with someone if they were unable to travel alone.

american kids charged with murder after insisting it was a 'mercy killing', couldve been, but could also have been a lets kill granny for her dosh thing( which is why the whole thing is open to so much scrutiny).

in holland, were assisted suicide for people said to be 'in full control of their minds' is legal, new legislation means that children and adults who are not in a fit state to give an opinion , can be made wards of court, and an appointed lawyer will decide if they live or die. Now thats scary, if i was like that id want my family to come to a decision, not an overpaid lawyer who has never known/loved/cared for me.

whilst ive always admired holland for their 'assisted suicide' views, i cant help wonder if they are now going too far.

there have been cases in england where judges have decided with the help of doctors that infants should stop being resucitated and given medical aid when they are suffering intolerably and have endured SEVERAL MONTHS of extreme agony and there is no way they will improve.

in Holland the same child wouldve been ' put to sleep' within a week, are they giving them a fighting chance? or simply writing them off.

and strangley, are they trying to create a master race where any weak/elderly/infirm are eliminated??.

not saying the Dutch are trying to be mini- hitlers, but where is the line on playing god?????

im positive that i want the right to decide to end my life if circumstances in my life take a turn for the worst, im positive that i dont want to see anyone suffer needlessly, but the ethics surrounding it, and the idea that courts etc could decide someones fate... not that just plain scares me.

If I got to the point where I wanted to end it all i'd buy a Bury Season Ticket and go and watch them, that way i'd snuff it through sheer boredom. Then again nobody would probably notice I was dead given the way the blackpudding addicts crowds are, being braindead like they are. :D

thats not dead thats just a loss of mentality

feck me that happens to me every time i go on an all dayer.
