  2. I might be able to assist you a bit with this - it confused me for many years The fact is that what was known as Pikes Lane was renamed Deane Road in the 1890s See the below extract on the History of Deane Gate Pike and Pikes Lane During the 18th and 19th Centuries the area of Deane lying at the foot of the hill called Deane Brow was known as ‘Gate Pike’. The name ‘Gate Pike’ may have derived from the turnpike road which was the old road which led up to Deane; the ‘Gate’ may come from the toll bar, which was literally a gate at which tolls were paid by those wishing to use the road. This toll bar was situated near what is now Haslam Park. From Britannia Hotel, at the bottom of Deane Road, as far as Cannon Street, the road used to be known as Blackburn Street, and from that point to the bottom of Deane Brow, just beyond where Saviour’s Church once stood, it was Pikes Lane, hence the name of the school. Around 1892 Blackburn Street and Pikes Lane became Deane Road. The principal means of subsistence in Gate Pike was hand loom weaving and few houses were without at least one loom. The cotton trade was established in cottages using handlooms in the 1600’s and 1700’s. Wool was the main textile at the time but traders called ‘chapmen’ began to buy cotton and distribute it to spinners and weavers by packhorse. The cotton trade prospered and in 1839, Dean Parish, which covered a large area, had 16 cotton mills, which were mainly worked by steam engines. The Gate Pike area had a terrible reputation for gambling and drinking and it came to be known as “Hell’s Mouth.” Holidays were generally spent racing, pigeon flying, and poaching or at local boxing and wrestling matches. The village, as it then was, nestled at the foot of the brow and a winding lane, hedged on either side with hawthorns, ran from the centre of Bolton to the ancient church of St. Mary’s, Deane. On the left hand side of the road coming from town were pretty little white-washed cottages with thatched roofs and roses round the doors. Gate Pike was once famous for its association with Pikes Lane football ground, the former ground of Bolton Wanderers, where the club grew until it moved to Burnden Park in 1895. The name Gate Pike has fallen into disuse as the district is not separate as it use to be. The country lanes have gone long ago and the area has been transformed from what it once was. As to the location of the Pikes Lane ground that is not straightforward because there was not one ground but two The first was a field known as "Dick Cockle's " which was opposite the Cross Guns Pub , Later they moved to "The Old Pikes Lane Ground" , at Gate Pike as described above There were further associations with this area in that both the Gladstone Hotel and the Britannia hotel - both on Deane Road were until 1895 the clubs headquarters This picture shows the Gladstone Hotel on 13 May 1964 next to the much larger Regent cinema. On the other side of the cinema is Harris Street, which can still be seen at the bottom end of Deane Road. The site of the Gladstone is roughly at the traffic lights at the bottom of University Way http://lostpubsofbolton.blogspot.com/2014/03/gladstone-hotel-deane-road.html gives a bit of detail the Britannia Hotel can be seen on the left of the picture. The cars in front of the pub are coming from the bottom end of Derby Street. The start of Deane Road is in the distance while Crook Street - which met both Derby Street and Deane Road - can be seen running to the bottom of the picture. It was a tricky junction to negotiate right up until the road layout was changed in 1979 with the closure of that part of Derby Street and Crook Street when the Trinity Street by-pass was built. Hope that clarifies things a bit
  3. Tell you what There's some ridiculous odds available tonight for anyone prepared to believe an upset is possible . Just gone for a longshot 1 nil win to Bolton , with us to be leading at HT/FT , only one team to score paying £670 for a tenner ( Bet 365 ) COYWM
  4. I think if we get any points from our September fixtures they should be seen as a bonus . In his head KH will be looking to having us competitive by the time the Blackpool fixture comes around at the beginning of October Points away from home against the likes of Rotherham and Portsmouth and home to Sunderland ( 3 of the 5 favourites to win promotion this season ) would never be easy no matter what stage of this season you play them ,even with a proper fit squad in place , so playing them over this next couple of weeks is a positive in my book . If come November we are losing by 4 and 5 to the likes of Accrington and Fleetwood , then that's the time to start asking questions
  5. Remember it well - The pub sign everyone takes a picture of Was surprisingly empty last time I went in ( night match about 4 years back )
  6. Correct - With the benefit of hindsight - perhaps it would be a more fitting tribute If one of the moderators close this thread
  7. Next tuesday ( against Oxford United ) sees us play our first home league match since we came out of administration . New Owners , a new managerial team and new players will all be there to take the applause of the supporters. One man who wont be there is the man who , even in death , ensured via his family and his trustees that we would have a club to support worthy of his legacy . Today ( the 11th of september ) is the first anniversary of the death of Eddie Davies . Looking back on the words of Paul Appleton as we came out of administration "I would like to pay particular tribute to the Eddie Davies Trust and their legal team who, throughout this whole process, have been willing to do everything in their power to ensure Eddie's incredible legacy was maintained and not sullied. "Even at the 11th hour when other parties were content to renege on their agreements, the Trust realised the very existence of Bolton Wanderers was at stake and were willing to find a compromise to save the club. It is a testament to their unflinching determination to do what was best for Bolton that we are able to complete the deal today. "The Trust were forced to constantly compromise their position in the face of circumstances and demands which were wholly unreasonable. This says much about their determination not to allow Eddie's beloved Bolton Wanderers to suffer any longer at the hands of Ken Anderson. I cannot help but think that to mark both the anniversary of his death and in respect to his family and his trustees it would be fitting if at this match we as supporters showed our appreciation of what was done and what might have been lost Eddie would have been 73 today , and the best I can come up with is a 73rd minute lighting up the stadium with our mobiles as a thank you Whatever we do , we should not do nothing
  8. Given all that David Rubin and Co have done for ( and charged ) Bolton and Blackpool over the last few months , I reckon they should at the very least sponsor the match ball
  9. Excellent !! https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186338-d730163-Reviews-Motcombs-London_England.html
  10. Got a really good feeling about today am starting to think we will have "Positive steps " in the hunt for a manager Possibly "Positive signs " of season tickets going on sale Stretching it a bit I know but maybe even a " Major breakthrough " as we look for players and if we get really lucky there may be a " Significant Development " regarding requests that butter be introduced on hot dogs
  11. I have got to confess he and I have been regularly exchanging texts over the last few weeks I thought I was texting a good mate of mine as the news broke and I accidentally text him in error as well ( dont tell him !! ) I assumed he would already know - he text back ......... Am sure he wont mind me saying........ he was at work - wiping away tears I was in a similar state !!
  12. I agree........... did try getting a discussion going a while back .....
  13. Or the other people who bid for the Hotel

Known him for 15 -20 years , know some of his family , dont subscribe to his politics , but let me tell you he's a very decent bloke , fully aware, supportive and sympathetic to whats going on with BWFC , in fact last time I saw him a few months back that was all we talked about .
  15. full details Despite further exchanges with the Administrators over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend, and right up until today’s deadline of 5pm, a resolution to ongoing impasse in negotiations regarding a completion of sale at Bolton Wanderers has not yet been found. The EFL Board has therefore taken the decision to lift the suspension on the notice of withdrawal, which was issued as per the EFL’s insolvency policy when the Club entered administration in May 2019. As per the League’s Articles of Association, this will now give the Club 14 days (11.59pm on 12 September, 2019) to meet all outstanding requirements of the League’s insolvency policy or its membership in the EFL will be withdrawn. In respect of the situation at Bolton Wanderers, the administrators now have this period of time to successfully conclude a change of control with a preferred purchaser, or provide sufficient evidence that they are in a position to fund the Club for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign. EFL Executive Chair, Debbie Jevans CBE, said: “Despite repeated assurances, we are extremely disappointed that we are still not in a position to reach a successful resolution with the sale of Bolton Wanderers and have therefore taken the decision to lift the suspension on the notice of withdrawal. I again urge all parties to finalise the proposed takeover. “The reality of this action is that there are now 14 days to secure the Club’s long-term future, and I sincerely hope we can find a way through these challenging circumstances for the benefit of all those who have an association with the Club.”
  16. Would appreciate your respective views If we assume stalemate tonight with regard to the club Knowing that there are 2 bidders out there for the hotel what do you think Quantuma the hotel administrator will do tomorrow ?
  17. I dont think it was this specific case , because the Back Henry Street Forum sticks in my mind , but someone set a Just Giving website up for one Blackpool fan and such was the outrage at the time fans from clubs up and down the country paid the fine Was a great act of solidarity and support
  18. Yes I totally get that its all perfectly clear But you asked me what do you perceive the admins have done wrong? I really would be interested to know what it is you think they have done wrong - and I have told you - and in my opinion its a major issue and not something to be brushed aside just because there were no other bids The administrators should have carefully reviewed where they were at with only the FV bid on the table and if viable - extended the bidding deadline and re advertised or - jointly marketed the club and the hotel and worked with the hotel administrators - recognised that having a separate administrator for the hotel with a later bid deadline presented spoiling opportunities To just accept the only bid going on a wing and a prayer is in part what has led us to where we are I think its important that you separate out the lack of bidders from the performance of the administrators I accept the club might be liquidated , I would have accepted that 2 months ago Whether other bidders would have come forward pre season we shall never know , whether other bidders are out there we shall possibly find out in the next 24 hours depending how things unravel
  19. Well as I have this to hand from earlier lets start with what was required Best and final offers were received from five parties by the 4pm deadline on Wednesday and, after careful consideration, it was clear the preferred bid met every criteria laid down by the Joint Administrators. These included, but were not limited to; - The highest bid for the club - Proof and source of significant funding - Ability to fund the club for a minimum of two years - Ability to satisfy secured, football and unsecured creditors - EFL approval The preferred bidder has also agreed to inject £1million into the club in order to fund the immediate running of the club and the rebuilding of the playing squad ahead of the new season. Taking each of these in turn - The highest bid for the club - DEPENDENT UPON ACQUIRING ANOTHER BUSINESS NOT WITHIN THEIR CONTROL - Proof and source of significant funding - DEPENDENT UPON ACQUIRING ANOTHER BUSINESS NOT WITHIN THEIR CONTROL - Ability to fund the club for a minimum of two years - DEPENDENT UPON ACQUIRING ANOTHER BUSINESS NOT WITHIN THEIR CONTROL - Ability to satisfy secured, football and unsecured creditors - DEPENDENT UPON ACQUIRING ANOTHER BUSINESS NOT WITHIN THEIR CONTROL - EFL approval - fine with that So 4 of the 5 main criteria they themselves set were not in their gift and you ask me what have they done wrong ! These criteria were not fulfilled as you suggest Little wonder we are in the position we are
  20. Well maybe maybe not A conditional offer was accepted by Appleton - dependant on Quantuma accepting his bidders bid for the hotel If at 5.01pm tomorrow no deal is done , Quantuma will presumably accept another offer for the Hotel and Appleton might face a few awkward questions The structure of this arrangement has invited the participants not to do a deal , to exploit the situation and to rack up administrators costs in the process and thereby put a football club in jeopardy
  21. I think there are a whole lot of people being economic with the truth and feeding us a version of events they want us to buy into and to not question
  22. Further to my previous statement and to clarify absolutely the position, Football Ventures (Whites) Limited (FVWL) are the only bidder to have satisfied the full criteria of the sale process and that remains the position. Despite persistent but false rumours in the media and on social media, FVWL are the only party to have met these criteria including, but not limited to, providing proof and source of funding and having satisfied the EFL's Owners and Directors Test throughout the Administration, dating back to May 13. Smoke and mirrors included within the full criteria is " the Highest Bid for the club " Therefore they could only ever be the Only bidder to satisfy the criteria This is a complete distortion to get a particular bid over the line The Joint Administrators for Bolton Wanderers can confirm a preferred bidder for the club has been identified and notified of their successful offer. Best and final offers were received from five parties by the 4pm deadline on Wednesday and, after careful consideration, it was clear the preferred bid met every criteria laid down by the Joint Administrators. Paul Appleton of David Rubin & Partners said: "I am delighted we have been able to reach a more than satisfactory outcome to this stage of the process and I am confident the preferred bidder has the ability to take Bolton Wanderers forward.
  23. The statement the administrator has put out is hardly conducive to him conducting discussions with other parties Its a gun to the head job He ought to be inviting other parties to come forward There is an alternative purchaser for the hotel Tomorrow Quantuma go back to work , wonder what their administrator will do in light of all this come 5pm if no deal done That's the end of FV for sure - such is the fragility of the deal that Appleton has put together But it might not be the end of the club if he gets his act together I
  24. Its got to relate to the Bassini case surely
