His form maybe did dip, but after single handedly keeping us up the first season he was here (after xmas) and doing as well the season after, most player of his age would struggle to keep up that level of performance. When he wasnt playing as well, I personally believe that he started to try to hard instead of doing to the simple things, and trying to get his form back that way. Lets just remember him for perhaps being the greatest player ever to wear a white shirt (Djorkaeff was my personal favourite of who I have seen) and leave it at that.

Bergsson was a legend at Bolton, but he stll played in a struggling Premiership side. We finished 16th and 17th in the 2 years before he left. I know we may never have the spending power of the likes of Chelsea, but surely we can do better than free transfers from Aston Villa. This is our seventh season in the Prem, where has all the money gone? No wonder Allardyce left, the club seems to have no ambition.

Not really relevant to this conversation. Samuel is an average Premiership player, not what a team which has finished in the top 8 for the last 4 years should be aiming for!

If Samuel was any good, he wouldn't have been released by Villa and would have been getting a regular game for them. He is only getting a run in our side now because Gardner is injured.

I'd rather have a fit and ready Gardner than Samuel any day!

Exactly, we had a midfield 5 wit Diouf trying to support Anelka. Other than Speed who tried to sit in front of the defence, the rest of them did not look like they knew where they were supposed to be. When we lose the ball, there are massive gaps which leaves the lads at the back exposed. It's no surpise that we have conceded so many goals already to teams taking us apart on the counter attack. I agree that we look good going forward and we are throwing more men up than for a long time, but its no good if we leave the back door open.
