Not Quite Sure What Happened Today

thought we played well enough to win, but when sammy took mccann off the midfield fell apart.

not too dishearted really as is was a crackin header to win it.

diouf and anelka played really well.

cid as many have already said, he is not up to the task just yet.

obrien was superb when he came on, a proper defender at last!!!

and wilhelmsson, how fukcin quick is he!!!

everton came for a draw and snatched a win, its what they do. and do it very well to be fair.

dont think ive ever been so optimistic after a defeat.

I was totally the opposite afterwards. Well f?cked off. We have lost 2 of 3 home games now. Comparisons are irrelevant but I reckon we'd have 7 points from those games last season.

It was entertaining granted but I'd rather have a pragmatic 2-1 victory which is what we should have had.

Agreed about O'Brien and I didn't rate him. Looks like he could be decent.

Wilhelmsson is very nippy.. hopefully he can get better as the season goes on!

O' Brien was decent when he came on.. won a few challenges and looked good.

Cid had a poor game.. lunged in on andy johnson for their first goal when he sould of stayed on his feet. Made some poor challenges aswell in my opinion.

Think Nolan should be dropped in my opinion also.. dont think he was up to his best today.

Also thought the ref was sh!te. made some bad decisions.

We were unlucky.

Quality in abundance going forward we're just lacking somewhat at the back. AOB looked steady and has to start at Brum.

I just hope the team will keep their heads up.

I'm all for a bit of optimism but that's taking it a bit too far!

Five games played snd 10 goals conceeded against teams that are unlikely to trouble the top six. Wigan have got Titus Shambles at the centre of their defence and yet they still manage to look organised at the back, so it's not all down to personnel.

Sammy Lee has got one job between now and the Birmingham game. SORT OUT THE DEFENCE!!!

That's his job not mine.

Wigan managed to look solid against Newcastle despite the fact that they were down to 10 men for most of the second half and i wouldn't say that the centre of their defence is any better than ours. It's down to organisation. That's the manager's job isn't it?

nah, its more than that

lee has set out to turn out a team that wins games

if that means it being 4-3, then he seems to be saying 'so be it'

if we win after he subs mccann, its genius

when we lose, its a shite decision and he wants his bollocks kicking

allardyce would have been happy to grind out the last half hour today

trotter would then have moaned

FFS. Things have got so bad, Bolton fans are now looking on marginal defeats as some kind of victory.

Utter f**king drivel.

For all Fat Sam's faults, he knew how to organise a defence. Losing a game in the last minute is just plain unprofessional. Trying to win games by outscoring the opposition ain't going to work if you're conceeding two goals per game.

It is possible to play attractive football and win!

Nolan might as well have had a blue shirt on the useless mess.I'd take that armband off the shell suit wearing salad dodger and give it to speed or someone else who knows what they're doing, and dump him in the reserves till he left and went back to McDonalds. The ref WAS sh!te and made A LOT of bad decisions!!!

Great post there Shat, Nolan shouldnt be on the pitch until he gets his bite back and actually looks like the player he was a couple of years ago, he definitely cant be upset at not being in the running for an england place thus far! Utter shite at the moment! Give the armband to a true pro and work horse, Gary Speed, Legend!! Dont get me wrong, Nolan could be a decent part of the team, if he sorts himself out. Why cant we play Derby next game?!?!?!

Give the armband to a true pro and work horse,

now i am too rather worried about nolans lack of form, but im pretty sure that he covered as much grass as anyone today, he ran himself into the ground. i dont believe you can question his desire. its just not happening for him and only he cant sort that out.

correct, we are now in that that position were the football is much improved yet the results are much worse.

fantastic isnt it..............

Well, I know that to lose late on was a huge disappointment, but for me, this was the football I have been craving for the past 3 years.

After giving up my ST last year in protest at the 8-1-1 FSA tactics, if this is the way Sammy wants to play, i will be an ever present this year.

Didn't do enough to win, but didn't deserve to lose. Apart from the result, this was a great game to watch.

Jussi Jaaskelainen 8

Some greats stops, including the 1 on 1 after the Meite error

Nicky Hunt 8

Ran the front 2 close for MOTM. Apart from a couple of stray passes, he was excellent today. When he went off injured we fell to pieces

Abdoulaye Meite 5

Really struggled today, looked scared of the pace coming at him. Nearly cost us with a mistake

Gerald Cid 4

Oh dear, worse by the week. Cost us the first goal with a mad lunge, but did his best against the pace of AJ. Has no positional sense at all. Nice to see that Sammy has the guts to take a player off after 45. FSA very rarely made a sub until the last minute.

Jlloyd Samuel 6

Did a little better today but he must learn to clear the ball without needing to take 5 touches

Gary Speed 7

Was the real captain today. Trying to tell players where to go as well as putting it about

Kevin Nolan 4

Shocker again by the fat disgrace. Spent his time moaning as per usual. So slow it is unbelievable. Offers nothing at all

Mikel Alonso 6

Some signs of his passing potential today but gets caught in possesion too often

Gavin McCann 7

Not a fan of this guy as a nasty player, but he was great today. Won a lot and was always available for the pass. Why was he taken off?

El-Hadji Diouf 7

Some great stuff, gets the crowd on the edge of their seats, but he needs to have more of end end product. You don't need to beat a man 5 times. Played well though.

Nicolas Anelka 8

MOTM for me. Not only the goal, the 50 yard pass to Wilhelmsson, but he was a constant threat and involved in every meaningful attack.

SUBS

Christian Wilhelmsson 6

Not on long enough, but looked good with some pacey runs, and also got back to make some good tackles

Kevin Davies 5

Didn't get involved, did he get a touch?

Andrew O'Brien 7

Didn't put a foot wrong, might be the man to sort out the shambolic defence positionaly

My only real gripe was the way we fell to bits after Hunt went off. Speed told Samuel to go right back, that left us with no left back. Then Speed went RB, and we finished the game with Nolan at RB. I know Hunt got injured and so we hadn't planned for it, but Sammy (or the captain marvel) should be able to sort the lads into a shape more quickly.

From the last 2 games I am certain that we will not go down, but let's get this brand of football perfected and look to a good run in Europe and a new assault on the top 6 next season

its also possible to play it and lose - today, we did

Why isn't it possible to play attractive football AND win? Surely it's about getting the balance right between attack and defence. Anyone who thinks that it's only possible to play either all-out attack or all-out defence is a complete muppet.

I'm loving the football . . . today was just very disappointing as it COULD have gone either way at the end. Nolan should have put us 2-1 up and then perhaps we'd have snatched it.

Nolan is trying... however I feel in a lung bursting game like today [ and a lot of Premiership games from now on ] where fitness really told... Nolan is not mobile enough, takes too long to recover from a burst of energy and needs to really produce on the ball to compensate for that. At the moment he is only in the team cos he was given the captaincy.

I was really really impressed with the audacity of Wilmhelmsson on his first taste of Reebok action. I know who I would pick for the next game instead of Nobby.

hunt going off wasn't the signal for it going wrong

mccanns amazing substitution gave midfield to gravesen

still had chances to win it though

entertaining performance, but bad result

Yeah I agree that they started to get back on top after we took off McCann but I felt that we were coping fine until Hunt went off, then we just lost shape and became a shambles.

Yeah we did have the chances to win it, bloody shame grrr

can you fcuking read?

don't try and put words in my mouth

care to tell me who in our league plays 'attractive' football, whatever the fcuk that means

imo, the teams that play the stuff your sort would call attractive, are united, arsenal, spurs (who win fcuk all despite spending the equivalent of the UKs gold reserves) and usually one of the relegated ones

its hard to play football in this league and be successful

i presume you could do it, which begs the question why you're on here and not waiting for awicks to give up the ghost

Spot on with Nolan, little sprint and he can't breathe and is out of the game for the next 5 mins

Wilhelmsson came on at Pompey so not his first showing.

I agree, but at least let's try instead of playing the 8-1-1 drivel of the past 2 years

hey, i never thought i'd say it, cos i'll watch owt if we win, but it's a good watch

i'd still take the points though
