Barton was involved in a fracas with youth team player Jamie Tandy which ended with the combative midfielder stubbing a cigar out in the youngster's eye after Tandy had tried to set his shirt on fire. City have already carried out an internal investigation into the scrap, with both players deemed guilty of gross misconduct, bringing a fine likely to be well in excess of the previous maximum two weeks' wages, in Barton's case probably around ??100,000. "We are aware of an incident which took place on Sunday involving two of our playing staff," confirmed club spokesman Paul Tyrrell. "An internal investigation has already been carried out by the club and the matter is being dealt with internally." Blues officials have been keen to stress 22-year-old Barton was not solely responsible for the incident and Tandy, out for the season after a recent knee operation, was equally responsible.
