  1. They have, but people choose to listen to Rwanda which dominbates the news cycle because its a daft plan by the people in power. Once processed they are either settled, or return to country of origin Here you go, https://policymogul.com/key-updates/27360/yvette-cooper-illegal-migration-bill-statement-and-labour-s-five-point-plan-to-reform-the-asylum-system LABOUR’S FIVE-POINT PLAN TO REFORM THE ASYLUM SYSTEM: 1. Crackdown on criminal smuggler gangs, through new cross-border police unit A Labour Government would redirect spending from the unworkable Rwanda scheme, which the government has admitted is subject to a very high risk of fraud, to set up a new cross-border police unit to crack down on smuggling gangs. This would include millions of pounds of new investment in the National Crime Agency. Officers would be based in the UK and throughout Europe to tackle the gangs upstream. This would be supported with an urgent review to identify the gaps in enforcement against smuggling gangs, with the findings used to lay out an Action Plan to be delivered by the NCA and Border Force, in collaboration with international allies and Europol. 2. Clear the backlog and end hotel use The Home Office is taking 10,000 fewer asylum decisions a year than they were in 2015, leaving people waiting in limbo for much longer and pushing up accommodation costs. Fast tracking cases for Albania and other safe countries, introducing triage and restoring proper casework standards and targets will mean quicker support for those who are refugees, much quicker returns for those who are not, and stopping costly hotel use. 3. Reform legal routes for refugees to stop people being exploited by gangs Labour would redesign the existing resettlement schemes which are not currently working properly so that they include a clearer process for refugees with family connections in the UK to be considered for resettlement, preventing them being exploited by criminal gangs or making dangerous journeys. 4. New agreement with France and other countries on returns and family reunion Labour would negotiate a new agreement which includes safe returns and safe family reunions. 5. Tackle humanitarian crises at source helping refugees in their region Labour would work in partnership internationally to address some of the humanitarian crises that are leading people to flee their homes including restoring the 0.7% aid commitment when the fiscal situation allows and strengthening support for the people of Afghanistan, currently the largest group trying to cross the Channel.
  2. Bloody hell. What a total shambles.
  3. Did I just hear on LBC that for the cost of the Rwanda scheme we could have processed every immigrant in the country? Blimey.
  4. That's a bit cutting from the site's Baldrick.
  5. Cheese isn't wrong in the slightest https://www.france24.com/en/france/20221114-france-uk-to-sign-deal-tackling-illegal-immigration-across-channel Remember - it was done by Braverman even! We paid 72 million euros for the priviledge, because, as we know getting bi-lateral agreements with our European neighbours is much more difficult since...well you know the rest Partnerships and closer ties are the key to the solution. Trouble is we made it all the more difficult for ourselves because of... Reet, those pissing lights.
  6. Course it is, means you can dismiss anything you don't like and don't have to look further than the end of your own nose. Saw this quote yesterday in The Big Short, made me chuckle 'Truth is like poetry. And most people fucking hate poetry.' Anyway, its my day off and like a sad sack i'm pissing around on here rather than putting the outdoor xmas lights up - better hop to it!
  7. We need more partnership working, not less. You are right about something dying since WW2 and that's the post-war agreement of European partnerships. As Churchill said in 1946 about the need to form a United States of Europe (I believe he referred to the nascent EU as that - just had a quick look and he did in his Zurich speech) He was the first leader in the West to suggest this process. Churchillian. I am now going to say something that will astonish you. The first step in the re-creation of the European family must be a partnership between France and Germany. In this way only can France recover the moral and cultural leadership of Europe. There can be no revival of Europe without a spiritually great France and a spiritually great Germany. The structure of the United States of Europe will be such as to make the material strength of a single State less important. Small nations will count as much as large ones and gain their honour by a contribution to the common cause. The ancient States and principalities of Germany, freely joined for mutual convenience in a federal system, might take their individual places among the United States of Europe.
  8. You just gotta have Smell_of_Reeves_and_Mortimer_Stars_in_Their_Eyes.mp4
  9. I think the UK leaving has actually boosted support for the EU in every member state - even in places like Sweden and Italy who are the most suspicious of membership generally However, in balance, support for further intergration has fallen slightly. So people want to remain in for the whole economic benefits but want some reform and are not looking for some sort of 'one nation' ie pretty sensible. They've also seen what has/is happening here and quite sensibly the majority don't want any part of it.
  10. Yes, that's the point here - because they sold Brexit on wish fullfilment rather than actual facts no one knows what a 'successful' Brexit looks like, and those who still believe in it differ on what the outcomes should/could be. That's why its a belief, its blind faith in something not tangible and in the face of all other evidence to the contrary. Small crumbs of comfort in comparision graphs with other nations is like peddling the God-of-the-gaps argument. If there is any failing by the EU, its filled in with acts of Brexit benefits and therefore proof that Brexit is good for the nation and therefore its irrefutable.
  11. As I say, Mounts is a true believer in Brexit. Heads of the Faith may come and go, but whilst he waits for the smoke to billow from the conclave the belief remains true.
  12. I'm afraid I can't. I'm the original Dirty One 😁 He never got over me taking the piss out of his trifle and beach towel St George's Day celebration.
  13. QT was strange last night, even Tories have turned. This whole Rwanda distraction has backfired massively but in all honesty they haven't got another avenue to pursue. Their record on everything from the economy to schools to health is in chaos, the party are tearing themselves apart in public. Sunak isn't up to the job, as Truss wasn't, as Johnson wasn't. May was, just, but foolishly called and election, couldn't hold the party together and was a poor communicator and Cameron was so full of hubris that his own arrogance brought him down. The record is one of the worst in history. They have let the whole country down massively and will pay the price at the election deservedly. They'll have no one to blame but themselves, they've speeded up Labours chance of power and the whole party needs to reinvent itself which will take considerably longer than they think. Who are the leaders in waiting with a real vision, just has Labour had under the development of New Labour as a progressive left of centre social democratic party, but that took people with real strategic skill. I just don't see that within the current Conservative party. If I was a member I'd be despairing, just as I was when Momentum took over the Labour party.
  14. Funny you should say because the 'waffle' Mounts didn't really understand the other day goes through the fact that as an update to the Schengen protocol there is a 60 odd billion euro investment for all EU partners to help not only strengthen boarder control, more efficient processing and and increase of over 100 thousand staff for the EU boarder controls so irregular migrants can be dealt with more effectively and humanely. Perhaps that should have been stuck on thw side of a bus? Mind you, not very catchy for those who get their heads turned by sloganeering.
  15. Always rage against the dying of the light. That's a great video.
  16. Well what an unpleasant juxtaposition of deaths.
  17. Number 10 actually put this out. Really? We are so far through the looking glass now, it's bizarre. I'm not one of those that rants on about give us an election now, but is this sort of rubbish from our Leadership what we've come to expect? We really deserve better.
  18. Even Tory MPs are asking for them to take it down. What a mess.
  19. Why do you think my username is Not in...couldn't wait to leave. Its not lifestyle I'm afraid - moved for work and in the arts you tend to have to keep shifting around places to climb the experience pole - one was for work in Chichester, one for a job in Cambridge.
  20. Almost at the end of the year - only another two weeks of releases - so here's NiC's favourite songs of 2023 So many good songs, diffcult to choose my favourite but certainly Vampire Empire by the ever fucking brilliant Big Thief is up there (the B-Side is also great) Scratch Your Metal by Divorce, who don't seem to be able to write a bad song, Pynch's Disco Lights (and the album itself) was really good, really reminds me of just walking around London this year, always seemed to have it on when communting, The Last Dinner Party are going to be HUGE, Roisin Murphy's album I thought was great and I'm not a huge fan, Sparks' stuff as good as they've ever done and had a bit of a revival this year, The Narcissist was the best Blur song in years, Black Country reinvented themselves and looking forward to see what they do next but Live At Bush Hall is one of the best live albums I've ever heard, Queens of the Stone Age got back to good riffs after Villians, Joshua Idehen's Been Kind of Lost takes me back to summer and the line 'I'm Clearly off My Tits' is just great, every teenager should have Gina Birch I Play my Bass Loud on full blast, Radio 6 favs The Lemon Twigs kept releasing great singles and the mighty King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard out Metalled metal bands with Gila Monster...... So many good song, so many I haven't heard, so little time, so put Loving Arms by Lack of Afro on and have a fucking great dance to great music.
  21. Any talk of immigration deflects away from the economy, the NHS, the rising cost of living, the previous leaders, Covid, the battles in the Conservative party, the lack of any actual policy or how we have gone backwards in the last decade under their stewardship. Expected this sort of stuff to be ramped up for at least a year as on anything that really matters, their record is woeful, so they don't want to talk about it. 'Get 'em focused on sending 50 immigrants to Rwanda - that'll do.''
  22. True - her reponse was the usual - I'm telling it how it is and we have failed the British People time and time again. To which he just said, 'Isn't it all about you, though?' Quite the interview.
