  1. I just think its a smidgy bit arrogant, and inacurrate, to dismiss religion and faith as simply binary doing bad or doing good. But hey, its your view - we're all on a journey, brother.
  2. As do many other things, and historically a lot of that is political rather than ecumenical. People have gone to war over kings, queens, imaginary made up lines on a map. Also without religion we wouldn't have many of the greatest developments in the world today - usch as in the Golden Age of Islam the notable advancements in Mathematics, and indeed flouished because of its willingness to intergrate other civilisations - which admitadly they conquered! I guess what I'm trying to say is that the secular western thought that puts the spiritual and religious into boxes marked silly or stupid isn't always the way for humanity to grow, communities to bond, and individuals to thrive.
  3. Yeah - he seems like a really decent bloke like you say, and clearly have funny bones, I find his animal love a bit odd, but that's just me being a mean spirited git. As I get older, I am drawn more towards faith, and not just in oh its really interesting sort of way - was going to do RS at Sixth Form but choose History instead - my eldest does it for her A-Levels. But after being really dismissive of people with faith myself for years I think there is something in it - not in a bloke with a white beard sort of way or I'll see dead relatives sitting on a cloud when I die, but in more of a spiritual/nature way that can allow a person to experience life in a richer, deeper way possibly. I might be talking utter bollocks as per, but personally I do find something moving about being in church and if individuals find strength in it in the utter desolateness of being a self-aware tiny insignificant speck. Then fair enough for me.
  4. Yes - be careful with those knees - completely messed up my running for a good couple of years - its only now with hours and hours of boring leg strengthening excersizes that I can run 5k without being unable to move for the next week.
  5. See, she was right up there but she recently got married and when on a corny publicity social media thing which just made me wince a bit.
  6. Of course we know that these extremists are not just based in or about faith.
  7. Another reason why Gervais should have been put to pasture after that second series of scarine shite he did. He is aggressive in his Atheism, basically saying if you believe in anything you are a fool. He misses so many complexities of what it is to be self aware, but yet have so little idea about the vastness. I totally agree with the ideas; just don't like the arrogance or the dismissive attitude to faith that it breads. Think about the hymns you've sung, the joy of seeing a place of faith in a shitty community, a call to pray over the Bosphorus or hearing a choral choir on Christmas Morning or at Epiphany. Small moments of beauty. Save me from a totally secular world. As humans we need faith, in its many beautiful forms.
  8. Nah, rough and blonde with extensions. Not for me. Now, someone like Eva Green. Now you're taking. Classy, bright and capable. (I know she dyes her hair before spme boring smart arse pipes up)
  9. Carry on Mone - with every tweet you give more votes to the Labour Party. 🤩
  10. Well, to be fair, you could have made your point without the need for the misrepresentation of what being Woke is, and the fact that there is a balance. Everyone would have got on board with that, and if you have a faith no one will be horrible because of that.
  11. He's not Woke. He can be very dismissive of those with faith that does make me slightly uncomfortable though and to slightly try and echo PHs comments, there is a strand of Atheism that does try and shut down those with a belief that doesn't help the discussion. And I say this as a life long Atheist, and someone who is very into being woke as in its true intentions before it started getting twisted and weaponised.
  12. Woah - hold on there bald eagle, don't be dragging me into this. I've still got my trip to Paris to bore everyone with, plus the RVP god the list is endless.....I don't need Dirty to get his knick knacks in a twist before I do that.
  13. Militant Atheism sounds like they should have been supporting Agnostic Front in the 80s American hardcore scene.
  14. Went there last new years eve with the family, food was shockingly bad.
  15. Because the nation are crying out for Bill Beaumont.
  16. Yeah - thanks, and passed onto the producers.
  17. Thanks - anything would be great - here's a bit about the shows in Wigan and the company: https://www.peakstuff.uk/wigan-shows
  18. Ta - looking to get in touch for a promotion/creative community type thing for a Wigan based company who are performing at Wigan Arena in the new year.
  19. I don't suppose anyone knows, or is friends with, a member of The Lathums or The Lottery Winners?
  20. Really? Not heard about that. Are they at the magistrates as that's just round the corner from our house.
  21. Because I like to and it was interesting to go to The Garrick and some people I get to meet day to day are quite fun. I wasn't critiquing bolton per say either, and I did apologise if it came off that way. Bromley's no great shakes either if it makes you feel better. As I say, there's a few on here for whom that last accusation can be levelled at, but if you want me to be a poster boy for it, not much I can do about that.
  22. Why don't you look it up if you're that bothered? Aloof? Yeah, I'd say so at times, that's fair, at other times not. Like most, I contain multitudes as Dylan said. My life is pretty mundane, I sell tickets, it's not rocket science or important, but I do get to see and do some really interesting things which I do enjoy. I've three kids so constantly skint, can't retire at all, still rent (and gone up again this month) and I'll be 46 next year, drive a shit second hand car, go camping every holiday and live in the suburbs - but hey if that's a better life, you go for it. I do think however, there is a certain type of arrogance from some posters that doesn't get called out, no reason it should but if you're casting judgement, it's always good to have a wider look round.
  23. Honestly, I think one of the mods did it. Anyway, it was a great thing to do as it raised loads of money. But to be honest, im not bothered either way - I mean I post Spotify links all the time - it's really bloody easy to find me and pics of me if that floats people's boats. There's even a really dodgy one on our website if folk are that interested. It'd take less than 3 seconds given im pretty open on here.
