So, we've had a change in fortunes. Just last week we all wanted the team strung up and whipped. The managers tactics weren't even worthy of Primary School football and the board had no ambition.

 

Funny what can happen with a few results.

 

Firstly, I have been criticial. Players like Ngotty, Jussi, Hunt, Stelios, Speed have come in for criticism. Not unjust either. I think some of these lads have played without spirit and not displayed a will nor any guile to justify pulling on the white shirt.

 

But, I did say that with so many of the team going through a bad spell, a few our injured and with quite a number of them desperately needing a goal, it could turn around quickly.

 

And so it has. Nolan was put in a more advanced position - where he does his best work. Gardner came back from injury. As did Jaidi. Jussi got his ass kicking by Sam (I presume why he was dropped). And Campo came back into the team to defend the defence!

 

However, a huge thanks must go to Diouf. He has really inspired the rest of the players again with his recent performances. His goal against WBA stopped the rot. His 10/10 display at Birmingham must have given the rest of the team something to cling to, be proud of, to really inspire them and give them renewed hope. Whilst the doubters thought we were just a bunch of misfits thrown together with no team spirit. All of a sudden it clicked back in place again.

 

Nolan has scored since - a goal he has been so so desperate for. Pedders got 2 yesterday - the sooner he gets back on the goal trail, the sooner we start rising up the table again. And... huge gulp.... big helping of humble pie.... ssshhhhh..... but..... Stelios scored yesterday! Now then, the jury is still out on him for me. But may be, just may be, a goal was all he needed to get his belief back.

 

A New Year. A New Bolton Wanderers.

 

Finally, just thought I would challenge Happy Wanderer to make a statement on behalf of this website. A statement to be given to the club and the BEN. One which states that the fans ARE FULLY BEHIND THE TEAM. Yes we have been niggled and have picked on players. But every team, every play goes through a 'mare. Hopefully ours is done and dusted for the season.

 

Maybe you wanna run a poll to give the statement a clear angle. Maybe then you could challenge the other forums and supporters club to do the same. About time we all united in the cause we all share in life.

If you were serious about this & think that things like that really make a difference (I genuinely don't know whether they do or not) I think the timing of this is a little out.

 

Isn't the point of something like this to show the team that they still have the fans support when we're really struggling? When we've just had a mini revivial & are unbeaten in 3 do the team really need it? If this were being posted a fortnight ago I for one would agree, but would the impact not be lost now?

personally I think the beleif has always been there

 

in that since he won with Greece in the summer he believes he doesn't have to work as hard

I think our job as fans in this succesful part of our time as a football club, is to support the CLUB

 

On a day when folk seem to want to whinge about london and lancaster whites getting preferential treatment for tickets, somebody buying a house, not buying folk from crewe or moscow etc, etc, we seem a long way from doing that

 

We've got a board, in particular i suppose, davies/gartside who seem easy tagets for cheap shots with each passing week, yet they have allowed allardyce to build this team...on the backs of our money , i accept that, but to suggest they're in it to line their pockets is, quite frankly, naughty - yes they make mistakes, don't we all.....i'd like to think i've never made one as big as the cardiff fiasco and the following events, but we do need to move on

 

 

since this administartion has taken us from where we were to where we are, i think they deserve our support

But maybe we as fans, and this as a forum, read by and contributed by some diehard, died in the wool, type fans, should be heard from time to time. Maybe we should be issuing statements here and there. Like 2 weeks ago. Pull your ragging fingers out. And this week, stick with Nolan and Diouf in advanced positions.

 

I don't know the answer, but I am sure that fans of other clubs actually vent their feelings and get listened to.

 

As for Europe. I didn't say that. But certain players needed certain things to happen. Peders and Nolan needed a goal. Jaidi and Gardner needed fitness. Diouf needed to come back from suspension. All of these have coincided. Which has to be good.

 

Back to point one though. Maybe it isn't mistimed making a statement now... ahead of the next HOME game, where performances have been at there worst and where the atmosphere has been like a morgue. I stood, sang and encouraged the team against WBA. Even though it pissed down, was freezing and early on the team were uninspiring. I think a few fans grasped the mantle and did their best to get behind the team. Funny, but I only started watching Bolton in '84. Mainly out of pity. They were shit. They got shit crowds. And they were my home town team. How they needed some supporting.

I think we sometimes forget this. Even now, with their fat pay packets and over enlarged egos, they are still blokes who need as much encouragement as a young kid on a Saturday morning school football field.

The last point at home was very, very different. It signalled and end to losing. It put an end to defeat. It meant much, much more to the players on the pitch. We as fans, sat at home later that night, still looked on it as two points dropped.

But you could see that the players left the field thinking they had won the cup. They were so happy. A massive weight had been unloaded off their shoulders.

Yep! It was a fine line being trod by the team. At half time, with the score still 0-1, I thought to myself, fcuk it, let's get behind them in the 2nd half. Which we did.

 

At 0-1 when Horsfield went through on goal it was pissing down like you've never seen. I was soaked to the skin and feeling a bit hungover. At 0-2, I think I would have gone home.

the best way to show your support win loose or draw is to go to the game both home and away, and give your support vocally, by the way as soon as we had the bad run i started going to away games again seen 3 on the bounce and got a great buzz from the brum and the ipswich game, its was a bit like the old days 500 proper fans, expecting us to loose and when we won it was a great buzz.
