richbwfc Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 No, not Nolan or Davies, but Big Kevin Pietersen. 97 off 84 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. I know its only against South Africa A, but still pretty good going! Looks a good one for the future! Well played Kevo!
Stewy_Baby Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Rich he's been around for ages bud and he is actually South African himself...
richbwfc Posted January 28, 2005 Author Posted January 28, 2005 Rich he's been around for ages bud and he is actually South African himself... Aye, I know, but about one of his first games for England wasn't it! I saw him play twice last year for Notts, one time he got a duck, and t'other time i believe he got a half century.
Guest spudwatter Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Anderson looks to have blown it completely though- shame that
richbwfc Posted January 28, 2005 Author Posted January 28, 2005 Anderson looks to have blown it completely though- shame that I have never really been a big believer of Andersen, but then I haven't seen him play as much as you lot would have done! He needs a whole season (at least) playing cricket for Lancashire, before England pick him again, as he just isn't bowling enough overs a season!

He needs a whole season (at least) playing cricket for Lancashire, before England pick him again, as he just isn't bowling enough overs a season! Now you see this is Englands fault for offering him a central contract, then calling him up for every test and not naming him in the 11, by then the Lancs games have usually started so he can not play in the them and he gets no practice...
Guest spudwatter Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Absolutely Stewy- listenned to Freddy Truman talking on talksport during a test-match lunch break and he panned central contracts. I know others have welcomed them- but it seems to be somewhat inflexible
Stewy_Baby Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 It is just typical of England we find a special talent and don't manage to nurture them properly, it happens in every English sport...

Exiled Girl Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I'd agree that the central contract has been the ruin of Anderson. He needs to play regular cricket, they should send him back to Lancs to play if he's not in the England 11. Thought the counties were allowed to swap a player for an England discard these days even if a game has started?
richbwfc Posted January 28, 2005 Author Posted January 28, 2005 England should just forget about Anderson, for at least a year, too give him time to be able to develop into a good enough player for England, instead of just being made 12th man all the time! Also, there is no way I would even consider putting him into the squad for the Ashes against the Aussies. I would prefer to have someone like Gough, or Cork back, okay they may be old but they can still do the job and they have experience, don't know if they have retired from international cricket though!
jayjayoghani Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Half the problem for me when I see Anderson bowl is that he seems to want to take a wicket with every ball. Needs to learn patience and concentrate on line and length. The best bowlers tend to be the most economic too.
richbwfc Posted January 28, 2005 Author Posted January 28, 2005 Aye, Glen Mcgrath is a perfect person to show that in my eyes. Always bowling at a perfect length, and just outside offstump tempting the batsmen to take wild shots and edge to the slips. That is something that the England batsmen are going to have to watch out for, as the australians can restrict the run rate so well, and when batsmen aren't scoring, they always tend to take wild shots. I fear that that will be the downfall with Strauss and Trescothick especially!
Smiley Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Just watched Lara batter the asians with a superb 156. First 50 was slow off 82 balls. Then he cracked the next hundred in 55 balls - including 4 superb sixes.
Stewy_Baby Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 I see he smacked 108 off 96 balls tonight not bad going, nearly as good as me...
Stewy_Baby Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Eh watch this space, I'm going on tour to South Africa next February to play cricket in Cape Town
richbwfc Posted February 2, 2005 Author Posted February 2, 2005 Lucky red ginger! We aren't allowed on tour even in England until we can behave correctly on the field of play! #-o Anywayz off too indoor nets now!
