iPods

Featured Replies

The time has come to drag myself kicking and screaming into the 21st century and buy one. From what little info I've gained so far a 20 Gig one is what I'm looking at. There's one on amazon for 140 quid, miles cheaper than any others I've seen. Is that likely to be hooky?

So, well, erm...help.

ta

possibly? cheapest ive seen a 20G one for is ??190

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_in...id=99152&r=KELK

ive got one, top lil tunes mobile!! also see if u can get an iTrip (about ??45)

www.everythingipod.co.uk (or .com cant remember)

plug it into your fag lighter in yer car and away you go!

i believe 20 gig is at least 4000 songs

is there really any need?

Yes.

Being a luddite I don't like CDs much and with the stuff I like most of it is on vinyl, which I buy and then download off soulseek before putting them on CD for my personal CD player for out and about. But burning them onto CD which is a pain, so iPod it is. In addition I've got about 400 CDs.

Can you put songs that are already on your computer on them or is it only direct from CD?

Yes.

can see why you want something to play mp3s but 20gb?

that's all i was saying

btw i can drag and drop files from pc to phone so the ipod should be easy enough to do the same

I have a 40Gb ipod and it's about half full with every CD I own plus all the mp3's I've acquired over the years. I also use it as a backup device.

You need to convert your cd's to mp3 or some other format and store them on your pc and the iPod syncs with that.

i filled up a mini one, sold it to my brother.

got the 20gb one off apple.co.uk, with a free lazer engraving

don't get an iPod

they may have cornered the market but they're by no means the best

get yourself a Sony NW-HD5

got an ipod its great.. tempted to sell mine becasue i dont really use it much.. but its great when i do.. ive encoded most of me cd's on high quality and holds about 3000..

wouldnt go for a sony.. apparently the copy rate is very slow to the device..

zen micro apparently are quite good value for money.. new one coming out soon...

you can get an ipod shuffle pretty cheap too but they dont hold much..

( trust the guy who sells mp3 players at work )

Does that make it an iPlod?

get something by creative labs instead

put simply-

cheaper

more functions(external hard drive functionality, and greater sound options)

replaceable battery(ipod ones can only be done by apple themselves, at a charge of ??60 plus postage)

basically the ipod is fashionista con designed to make people pay over the odds because they don't even know alternatives exist

=D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

and it connects to his PC......

The one on Amazon may be 3rd generation - they're now into 4th generation where the only real difference is battery life. You can get replacement iPod batteries from sites other than Apple and they're cheaper (http://www.ukipodrepairs.co.uk/). Also, whilst others may indeed be cheaper and have potentially greater functionality (although the iPod can also be used as an external hard drive) there is nothing like the iPod for simplicity. It also depends what software you're running on the PC for your current music - again iTunes is by far the simplest and best programme out there... Not sure how other PC music programmes do with iPods as I'm on a Mac. Like someone else said, get an iTrip for use in the car (and on the home stereo if you want), but don't pay ??45 for it, pay less than ??30 with P+P (http://www.mydogandbone.com). Not sure if similar devices are available for other brands of MP3 player??

agreed, ipods are complete shet, too much messin about to get tracks converted to ipod format

yeah, you can get radio transmitters that work for all audio devices for ??6 including postage

(proud owner of radio station:D:P)

That's me :-k

On the other hand, the iPod is a design classic, Apple are very good at making stylish stuff that has a quality user interface too.

Due to it's popularity, there are more add-ons on the market, software and also a larger user community.

Just been having a shufty of these zen touch doofits on creative.com 160 quid for 20 gigs but it's more songs than an iPod for some reason. Looks quite promising.

All this stuff on the sites might as well be written in Lingali so keep hints coming, cheers so far.

this adds on thing is a widely held belief but it's total rubbish i'm afraid

there are lots of things that only work for ipods, i'll grant you that, but all of them have equivalents that work for any audio device and cost 1/3 of the price or less

ipods are just like PC World

over priced mid range equipment marketted viciously at people who don't know any better

it's a crime really, it just exploits people who don't realise they're being ripped off

not gonna lie - i got an ipod cos they look better.

i was going to get an iPod but only because they're compatible with iTunes and nothing else is, and I've now only gone and got my whole digital music collection set up on iTunes

then I realised they're not as good as they think they are

so now I just sing and hum to myself when walking down the street

It's a good job you don't come across as a smart arse know it all who just dismisses other people's opinions without actually adding any substance to the discussion yourself.

What the fcuk is "an incorrect opinion"?

Nob.

I've been tempted by an mp3 player for quite some time, just haven't got round to it.

But I've done my research, and the Creative Zen Touch would be my choice too.
