Caborn backs Wembley for deadline

 

 

New Wembley constructor Multiplex has announced that cost overruns are expected to rise to ??75m.

 

It stated recent estimates of a ??48.6m discrepancy between construction costs and revenues would have to be revised upwards by more than 50%.

 

The projected losses stem principally from the dispute with the steel sub-contractor Cleveland Bridge (CBUK), which left the site last year.

 

The redevelopment of the stadium was orginally set at ??757m.

 

Steel contractor Hollandia, was called in to replace CBUK, but no agreement was reached on the upper limit of the cost of steel and labour to Multiplex.

 

Steel prices have been rising and it is believed that, if a fixed-price contract is not agreed, the overruns might rise beyond the ??75m estimate.

 

"Whilst the negotiations are at an advanced stage they remain incomplete and it is possible Multiplex will not conclude a mutually acceptable agreement with Hollandia," chairman Allan McDonald told shareholders at the Australian company's annual meeting.

 

"If the negotiations are completed, the agreement will ensure that the costs in connection with its subcontract works package will be capped at a maximum value.

 

"If actual costs reached the maximum value this would result in an adverse impact of around ??25m on the estimated steelwork costs."

 

However, McDonald said Multiplex would try to recover shortfalls in income through a series of "claims".

 

Legal action is already under way against CBUK.

Wembley Stadium is a fixed price contract so that ??75m will be entirely paid by Multiplex - not the FA.

 

And the actual cost of the stadium is ??350 million.

The Millennium Stadium was another fixed price contract which nearly ended up bankrupting Laing (the main contractor).

Cov city were hoping that they'd decide to build the national stadium there so they could play in it!!

The company I used to work for was asked to quote for the sprinkler system (Fire protection not pitch watering). The consultants asked us to tender at cost LESS 10% price as the job was so prestigious and would look good in the company brochure. We of course told them where they could stick the new stadium.

 

So I don't know why its costing so much when the Welsh can do it so cheaply.

Dont know how much it costs though, but I'm pretty sure its less than ??830M, seen a picture of it too, the outside of the stadium changes colour (not sure what for though ).

Think you're on about the Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich's new ground. The facade changes colour accroding to who plays at home. Red for Bayern, Blue for 1860.

Didnt know what the colours were for, thought it was just to be a bit different and for show really. Quite a good idea really; what happens though when they play each other? Does one half go red and the other blue?

they're overbudget because they offered they FA the project for much less than it could possibly have been done

 

before the cock up of whether it should be for athletics or not, the FA agreed that William Hares should build it, for about ??150 million (or so) more the final bid.

The Allianz Arena cost ??175 million, split equally between Bayern and TSV 1860.

 

The ground holds 66,000, but 10,000 seats in the North Stand and 10,000 seats in the South Stand can be converted into terracing.
