Can anybody explain how she came second in the Sports Personality of the Year awards? Surely she's not a sportswoman, she's a sailor! She doesn't compete against anyone......

 

Don't get me wrong, she's extremely talented and I'd agree with her being voted yachtswoman of the year, but its supposed to be a SPORTS personality?

 

What next? Second place going to the guy who holds the world record for balancing milk crates on his head?

aye but to be a sport doesn't necessarily mean you have to compete against someone, it just means that you exert yourself physically

 

and being alone on a boat for so long, i'm sure she spent a lot of time flicking her bean

I've been wracking my brains but I can't think of any other sports where you don't compete against anyone.

 

Wish bean flicking was an Olympic sport though. Much more interesting than Athletics! Perhaps not if it was Ellen doing the flicking however!

I think competing against the sea in force 8 conditions for 2 months is a bit more tricky then playing villa on a Saturday afternoon for 90 minutes. Good for her I say.

no, because there are no concrete written rules to, for example, disqualify my mate whom regulary enters the arena with a pre basted semi
