Strong words Garp, but I agree there seems to have been a change in direction from HappyTours on this one.

Happy tours was a good deal for portugal and maybe i should have used it myself after all the fecking around. This time is different though.

The company I deal with will be revising their prices in the morning.

 

All I can say I don't need this grief of anyone. No one else took it on-board to get the best 'bulk' deal for 'everyone'. Others decided to do their own thing with a few others tagging along.

 

I'm dealing with big players in the market here who know the market place.

 

You should reserve your judgement and strong words as it's early doors.

 

Yes you're right I was going to publish prices early, then decided to hang fire to give you the best prices. You will notice that this was the case with the DayStop, TMG put theirs out at ??215 so I had a word and we went down to ??195. Tell me how is that ripping people off?

 

TMG were playing around all day trying to get hotels in Marseille. So I decided to put the prices out before them. If you'd have been more observant you would have got your facts right on this one. So that's why TMG's offering looks better because they followed the lead and beat it.

Happy, I understand what you're saying and also what Garp's saying.

 

On your behalf, you went back on your promise to release details within hours of the draw, so everyone could get sorted. You have a load of satisfied customers from your last trip to Portugal, of which Garp was one of them.

 

This group of satisfied customers have had to hang on until all the cheap independent deals have gone, before you showed your hand and I think this is what has angered Garp.

 

I, personally, still don't understand why you and whichever company you're working with couldn't have had the five possible deals ready to go immediately after the draw. That's what we did and hence, got a great deal which has now disappeared, leaving those awaiting your announcement, supposedly within hours of the draw with just 3 options: you, TMG or paying silly money to go independent.

I agree Happy, it can't be easy trying to sort out flights for so many people and could do without people being on your back so early on

 

Gaarp give him a break he is doing the best he can, he has done a good job so far and I for one would not like to take this on board as its a lot of hard work

Me personally prefer to pay that little extra to save the hassle of looking myself but I am just a lazy arse

I can't see what hard work is involved. A travel agent type person does all the work booking flights, hotels, transfers, sets up a 24 hour booking line etc. This is their business, it's what they do.

 

Happy advertises the deal here, no problem there, and picks up a free trip to Marseille and a healthy commision cheque, again no problem there whatsoever.

 

To claim you are doing it for anyone else other than yourself though is a little bit silly and insulting people's intelligences. That's my only issue.

I'd have travelled Happy Airlines as I've heard very good reports if the price had been right. And by right, I mean ??180 for a 1 night stay.

 

But as you say, you don't have to defend yourself, it is still a decent price compared to other companies.

In happy's defence I would like to say that there is a market for people who want the hassle-free trip with transfers to and from the stadium and airport. These people are willing to pay the going rate because they have other priorities than the price, for example the security and not having to organize each step of the trip.

Others go to these awaydays independently as cheaply as possible and 'rough it'. This could involve sleeping on the minibuses and trains etc. and travelling longer distances which is all part of the adventure for some but isn't everyones cup of tea, therefore you can't just compare the price of one to the other because there will be a big difference and you are not comparing like for like.

I have spoken to many people about the z??zzytours experince and they have all said what really cheap trips we have had but many have said that it wasn't for them because they would rather pay twice as much and have the security and comfort.

I think that a whole host of companies are fleecing fans though on that basis, TMG would appear to be the worst.

It was always going to be a case of each to their own.

I, personally would always aim for a 2 night stay, but I appreciate the cost of an organised 2 nighter can be prohibitive.

The cost of a two nighter is prohibitive if you don't travel via the cheapest method possible. This is the only realistic way of attending all the away UEFA games. I couldn't really justify ??200-??300 for each game plus spends.

 

It's horses for courses, if we get Rossenburg or Zenit St Petes these companies aren't guaranteed to even run trips there. There's no way I'm missing a game of that magnitude become I've spent up or because there's no one there to wipe my arse.

The trip can still be done independently for about half the price of a package

Think the issue that's cropped up here is that some folk believe the WW trips are almost a 'not for profit' venture on Happys behalf, and to me, it's still not clear whether this is the case or not.

 

However, if I were Happy there is NO WAY I'd do this thing without making a tidy sum. Just organising for my 2 mates is a nightmare, they are constantly moaning about flight times, airport, costs etc, even though I sorted out an absolute bargain deal for us in Portugal and did the driving over there.

 

Happy ain't gonna get thanks for doing this so instead he'll make a few quid (I assume) and that is fair enough in my book.

i think happy had done a fine job in getting deals for people, if people do nt like what he is offering then go with someone else.

 

he IS offering a service to people, do nt know or care if he is making a bit from it, someone will be naking money would rather it was happy than someone i do nt kow.

 

when the draw was made, i got prices from various places, including happy, his trip is good because staright from manc and no changing/waiting in various airports round europe. as it is we are going independently no problem there, our monye our choice.

 

some people seem to think this is a charity event.

 

happy is helping by advertising a convenient trip at a price that may suit some people.

I was going to book our lot on Friday through expedia ??195.00

going Wed 22nd returning Fri 24th.

Told the lads about Happy tours and they said ok well wait and see what deals he comes up with.

Got a text off Happy told the lads the prices and they said it was too expensive

Because I did`nt book on Friday I could`nt get us into a hotel in Marseille when I tried expedia yesterday. gave them a bell and did the booking over the phone, were now stopping in two apartments slap bang in the centre.

Trouble is we have to feck about changing in Frankfurt so our journey times are over 8 hrs each way although we are getting used to this, plovdiv, guimares, just adds to the experience.

The price has gone up ??20.00 pp since Friday.

 

Happy tours would have flown us direct and we`d have had good accomodation plus transfers which I think is very reasonable.

I think that Happy is doing a great job, at least he`s got off his arse and tried to organise stuff.

 

I dont know who sets his prices, even if he`d have quoted ??250.00 i think

our lot would`ve said no.

 

Even though im not using Happy Tours keep up the good work Neil and dont let the bastuds get to you.

I've just asked Happy to book me & Fenny Senior on this trip, as it saves hassle.

Last night I spent hours trying to book indepe...I mean on my own and got nowhere. My own fault for leaving it too late.

So for the sake of paying off my credit card a bit longer I just can't be arsed with the bother.

 

If you've got it cheaper on your own well done, you get a blankety blank cheaque book and pen.

 

For now I'll leave it in the hands of Happy...

he's getting something right - cos bums on seats proves that.

just for the record, I went with Happy Day Tours to Portugal, and the whole thing was shit hot, well organised and no probs what so ever.

 

I will have no probs about using it again in the future.
