Sweep
Horwich, can we make this a "sticky" please so that we don't end up with a thousand threads or so............ Anyway, I have just lifted this information from elsewhere, might come in useful for some of you when making your picks though: GRAND NATIONAL 2006 The main points to consider before we place a bet on the national are outlined below. Weight Choose a horse between the weight of 10-5 upto 11-4 a selection within these rules will give you an advantage of being in the top 5 places. Age Your selection should be aged between 8 and 12 years old these have the best chance of winning. Jockey Some say not important we reckon its vital jockeys to look out for in the national are (R.Walsh,L.Aspell,B.Geraghty,G.Lee,C.Llewellyn.) All the above have been around and have won or placed in this race. For instance Mr. Llewellyn has won the Grand National 2 times and placed 1. Record If your selection did not finish last year or is having its first run in the National your chances of winning increase. Going / Distance Your selection has to be proven on soft ground over 3 miles to have a realistic chance in this race. By applying this information we come up with a shortlist of these 10 horses: Ballycassidy,Baron Windrush,Clan Royal,Forest Gunner,Garvivonnian,Heros Collonges,Innox,Jack High,Juveigneur,Sir Rembrandt. (Dangers would include Numbersixvalverde,Dun Doire,Joes Edge and Ross Comm) Going with our form guides we will narrow the entire field down to 4 horses you should concentrate on. We will oppose both Clan Royal and Hedgehunter at around the 11/2 mark these are no value in this race. Top 4 selections: 1st - JACK HIGH @ 16/1 2nd - GARVIVONNIAN @ 25/1 3rd - JOES EDGE @ 25/1 4th - BARON WINDRUSH @ 50/1 Having said all that, my pick for the day will be Joes Edge
Zozzy
Clan Royal is my idea of the winner because of it's form. Currently 13/2 but will be shorter on the day

Ray Von
The top 40in the weights will run. When one of these is withdrawn the next one is put in. Some of those that dont make it in will run on the friday in the Melling Chase.

exiledwhite2
Clan Royal and Hedgehunter. People can say they are 'no value' but for me, sixes is a bloody good price for any winner! I'm gonna do them in a reverse forecast
Traf
I'd have to agree. A winner is a winner at any price.

Sweep
??1 I'm confused...................... how does that work then? if there are only 40 horses (and say 10 reserves) and the tickets are ??1 each, how does the prize fund ??850 Or am I being a bit dense.............. Either way, if you have what equates to odds of 500-1 on Innox, I presume you will be off happily laying it on Betfair this afternoon
Moderators Horwich Posted April 7, 2006 Moderators Share Posted April 7, 2006 Its just a grand national draw, not a sweep. they sell 1000's of tickets, loads of local sporting organisations get them off them.. 40 Tickets are drawn out and you get one of the horses in the national.. i got Innox :D/
