Between Allardyce and McClaren for England job

Article in The Times today states that Allardyce is the realistic challenger to McClaren for the England job

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,27...2144523,00.html

All the indications in recent days have been of a two-way fight between McClaren and Sam Allardyce, despite O???Neill???s considerable reputation. The Bolton Wanderers manager???s support was thought to have ebbed, but a good interview last week, in which he showed off his extensive dietary and psychological preparation at the Reebok Stadium, is known to have convinced at least one member of the board.

Noel White, chairman of the international committee, is believed to have been impressed

i can't understand people saying sam is shite and not good enough etc, and then suggesting foreign managers with no better record

frankly, the only place eriksson has been successful since gottenberg was Lazio, where he spent ??200m over 3 years on players, and managed to stumble to a single seria a title, and the club is now crippled with debt and has few good players left

all this self chastisement bullshit just pisses me off; sam's done nothing but succeed with less than wonderful resources

it's took 12 months, but he's got something right

i dont see how Sam's dietry/psych stuff can translate to international football. He'd see the squad once every 3 months or so for 2/3 days... anything he puts in place would be gone the week after when the club managers want things their way. Can you see Wayne Rooney doing tai chi and eating pasta-salad???Personally I think Sam thrives on the day-to-day involvement with the players and his staff, I think this is why his man management is regarded so highly and why players feel they owe him something. I just can't see this working at international level.

Anyway, I don't think you need a 'manager' per se to run a national team, you need a 'head coach'.

Do you really think Bolton are the only CLub to have their players eating correctly ???

In the article it says the board were very impressed with Allardyce's dietry techniques (irony anyone?) - so he must be doing something other clubs aren't

Im not sure that they have interview Alex Ferguson for the England job.

Sam has built a club from lower Championship to a decent Premiership side. The only reason the English managers haven't won owt is because the big clubs insist on appointing anyone who's foreign. If English managers aren't given the chance to compete with the bigger clubs - they're never going to win anything.

How anyone can rate the multi-million spender McLaren better than Sam, is beyond me?! Look at the league table, if they go out of both cups (which could happen) Boro will have achieved nothing & will be towards the bottom end of the PL.

This countrys problem is the f*cking media changing the minds of the simpletons who believe everything they read. Sam was praised, we go on a bad run & now he's behind McLaren in the running. Curbishley was praised, they also start playing shite & now he's an outsider. McLaren has been slated for I don't know how long, he makes a few decent cup runs & now it's his turn to be heralded as our saviour.

All of this while the FA have kept silent

6 points off you, so dont speak too soon!

Ok, so thats what we want, someone who made decent prem side....we will dominate for years!!

the point is that allardyce is widely accepted to be an innovator

he makes things happen, and sets trends

rather than following them

maybe the sort of thing that tips the balance between very good teams and winners

He is not the only one to do all this stuff, eating correctly and even pro-zone!

Maybe Arsene and Fergy need to copy Sam!!!

But, when he does go, you lot are going to be in the sh??t!

Egg-ragging-zactly

Pablo - you mentioned Capello before - his first job was boss of AC Milan.

In England now you WON'T get a top job first up, in fact you wont get oe full stop if you're English. Doesn't mean you aren't potentially a top boss, more that you will never have the chance to prove it.

However, I do agree that maybe Sam won't be as effective managing players now & again as opposed to daily man-management.

But McLaren - English manager? Give your head a shake.

Pablo is jealous, now his hometown club are better than his :D

Sam is by far the best out of the 3, i dont think many people doubt that.

I just dont think Sam is good enough for the top job, i may be wrong!

I wouldnt want Sam at my Club, certainly not ever Moyes!

You wouldn't want Sam ast Everton??????

Got to be a wind up, unless you're proud that your massive club (the peoples club  ) has managed a single cup win in 20 years.

PB

Has Sam got manager of the year twice in the last 3 seasons ???

Sven's record is good

but think back to half of them wins, dreary football, where often it took a goal from the likes of a Slovakia to kick us into gear before winning late on

so

Sven's results have been good, but performances less so

which could be argued is exactly what Alladyce has done

our football may not be perfect, but the results and success off the back of them is second to none for clubs in our bracket

my point being

if football is a results business - you can't really say Sam isn't in Sven's class as a manager

If it's between these two muppets for the job I think I'll stop watching England. Neither are good enough and whilst you can say the squad are so good any old donkey could manage them - I can't imagine the players being motivated by either of them.

Scolari will get the job

If they pick the best candidate, Scolari should get the job.

The FA went about it wrong from the off with pushing the "English" nationallity thing. I would have liked Cappello, he said it is his dream job, from then the FA should have done everything they can.

Sam, Curbs amd McLaren are decent managers, but I just think they are the best of a bad bunch or English/British managers available!

Lots of people - me included - felt it was important to have an English boss.

What is the point of winning an international tournament if the mastermind behind it is foreign?

Cant you ask yourself the same question? If Bolton was made up of a foreign squad and we won the Uefa Cup with a foreign team amd a foreign manager, would you not be happy?

Sven........... a master tactician........... does anyone agree with this?

This is how I look at it.

If the Chelsea, Arsenal or Man United jobs suddenly became available, none of the above managers would be even in the betting

Sam would be in the betting if the ManU job came up, he has been arseholing for that job for a long time

Sven........... a master tactician........... does anyone agree with this?

tactician? no.

Baiter? yes.
