3 bed house - Electric - ??330 - Gas ??170 both excluding VAT

 

Surely there's a feck up somewhere?

just got my gas bill ??160 and i live in a 3 bed house,looking back at last years cheque stubs that is up ??60 pounds on what i paid this time last year.

we're in a 3 bed semi and our gas bill for the winter 05-06 was greater than hitlers in 40-41.

wholesale lectric/gas prices are at an all time high (ish*)

 

about 4x what they were 5 or 6 years back

 

* they've actually dropped back about 10% in the last week

Your gas is probably about reet. The leccy is way out.

Just got my leccy bill. Pay monthly at just below ??40/month but quarterly it's ??89. They keep putting my bill up and down depending on over/under payments.

You need to have a word with your supplier. Did you take a start reading when you moved in?

The readings look right.

 

The electric is about 3 times what we paid in our other house. Only thing that we have got that's different is a dishwasher. Surely they aren't that expensive. If they are its getting replaced with a pair of marigolds.

Dishwashers are expensive to run, I used to have one until we got divorced.

most people have no idea whatsoever just how much elec they use. i used to work as an energy advisor dealing with people whos bills were higher than usual. if the readings are correct then-

firstly- check there isnt an immersion heater switched on somehwere that you werent aware of.

Second- how much higher than your last home was your bill?? can it be explained with the price increases??

if not- seriously look at what- if anything- is different from your last home- write down every appliance you used there, and what you use here.

Sometimes having a new garden pond pump, an extra security light and using your dryer a bit more often cos the weather was overly wet can make a huge difference.

people would ring and say ' i hardly use anything'

the list usually ended up like this.

bathroom- light/extractor/shower??

bedroom- lights,stereo,alarm clock, tv/dvd/video/hair dryer etc.

outdoors- secrity lights/garden pond pumps

living room- lights/lamps,tv,dvd,video,stereo,plug in phone consoles,sky/cable boxes. etc.

kitchen- washer,dryer,dishwasher,microwave,kettle, oven,fridge freezer, lights, various kitchen appliances like iron/food mixer etc.

general- alarm/security system, charging mobile phones, computor and related equipment, chargers for cameras, fish tanks etc.any portable electric heaters etc.

 

dont use anything??? my arse Mr Customer.....

add into this that some products are more efficent than others, that some appliances that may be using more elec than they should if theyre old/faulty or something like having a dryer next to the fridge means the fridge has to work twice as hard to maintain temperature etc so will use more leccy.

 

Mick, if you rang energy efficiency they would suggest the following. continue with your normal use but read the meter once a day before you go to bed. this will give you an idea of your average consumption but also demonstarte to you how much you use when youve got the dryer on etc.

ring energy efficiency after a week or so and ask them to send you information on what the average usage of appliances, example-how much does an average 40degree wash use on your washer etc.

theyre usually very helpfull.

most people understand how theyve used it after that. once you understand it you learn how to control and reduce it.

Bedroom 4 had to go for the home cinema. Bedrooms 5, 6 and 7 became the indoor swimming pool and bedrooms 8, 9 and 10 became the heli-pad.

Mrs C - only thing different from the last house is the dishwasher and underfloor heating in the kitchen. I've been on the website of the underfloor heating people and it works out a 0.5p per hour per square metre and its only on an hour a day, so it can't be that.

 

I rang the electicity people last night and they told me that the bill this time last year for our house was ??200 for both gas and electric. When we bought the house, they left all the appliances.

 

Dishwasher and washing machine are always ran on the shortest, coolest programme. We've a combi boiler so unless there is an immersion boiler hidden somewehre in the loft, it can't be that.

 

At the last house we paid a direct debit of ??60 a month and when we moved they owed us money.

was payin ??63pm dualfuel with scottishpower, but i was over paying so it dropped to ??35, but i was still overpaying so its ??8 now

I pay ??30.00 a month to each 1 & i seem to always [-o< [-o< be in credit.

You've been done, don't pay anywhere near that much for lecky- and I do have a dishwasher.

 

Sounds like you've been charged for the previous occupants' shortfall or they've simply fooked up

you should be able to work out if it is correct, see what your meter readings were on the day you moved in (I presume you took these) and then multiply units used by unit cost...........not forgetting to add in any standing charges that may apply.

 

It could be, as mentioned above, that the previous owners of the house submitted a false final reading "in error" 8-[

Like we are! Our new monthly payment for electric is.... wait for it.... ??116. Last quarter we used around ??140 - we are in debt to them around ??440.

Gas and Electric prices are sky high.

 

We pay ??40 a month to each.
