August 30, 200619 yr Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka has confirmed that a number of Premiership clubs were interested in his services before he completed his switch to The Reebok Stadium. The French striker put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at Bolton last week after a fee of ??8 million was agreed with his former club Fenerbahce. Anelka has confirmed only The Trotters met the Turkish outfit's valuation of him but says he would have had his choice of clubs if a fee could have been agreed. Portsmouth were strongly linked over the summer but Anelka has revealed that Fulham and Blackburn were Bolton's closest rivals for his signature. "Bolton is the club which met the fee asked by Fenerbahce, in a way Fenerbahce decided where I would go," he told L'Equipe. "I would have had the choice of several clubs had they come in with the fee. "But that was not the case with Fulham and Blackburn who also were interested in me recently." The former Manchester City and Arsenal striker admits he is delighted to be back in England after 18 months away. Anelka insists he enjoyed his time in Turkey but says it was the right time to make his return to The Premiership. "My experience in Turkey has been very positive. I will have excellent memories of Istanbul," he continued. "I can guarantee you that the league is not absolutely ridiculous. "One-and-a-half years there was good, but now I wanted to go back to England. "To me it is the best league in the world, the most beautiful, the most passionate and one of the most difficult. "For a player, it is the best place to live. "Coming back to England is just to play football again, there is no link with the French team. "I have returned to England to come closer to my family, my friends, and to live football without pressure. "At Bolton, when the match is over, I can be in Paris one hour later." Anelka says he is already familiar with a large number of Bolton's squad but admits it could be up to a month before he is in peak condition. He added: "Bolton reminds me of Manchester City, I know almost every player, notably (El Hadji) Diouf, (Abdoulaye) Meite and (Abdoulaye) Diagne-Faye. "I have not touched a ball for three weeks.
