I was just thinking though, if we had a terrible start, how long do you think it would be before fans turned on Sammy?

Lets be honest, if we are mid table and not at risk or going down or have a chance of sneaking into Europe then i can't see many people being happier. As dull as people claimed it to be under BSA we have always had something to look forward to in recent years. I would take that over a mid-table and free flowing. But then other people obviously disagree, however i have found that that many of those people are the ones who weren't going on a regular basis anyway.

Take at look at Chelsea's crowds though, they aren't that great. Especially in CL games. The truth is the Bolton public have got bored. Its no longer exciting to watch Bolton in the Prem for a lot of people. We are an established side and that fact means that for a lot of casuals the interest has reduced. People like to blame ticket prices and the clubs crap marketing but i don't think the club could do a great deal more to boost crowds. My season ticket works out at ?21 a game. To me that is value for money.

Taking your points there:

 

1) The drop in crowds is due to many reasons that has been discussed on here in great length. The style of football under FSA is just one of many.

2) Not sure where you watch your football but at ?70 is ain't at The Reebok

3) Utter tosh. I have been a season ticket holder for many seasons and I would take success over this 'flowing football' people are suddenly talking about, any day. Just ask Barnsley fans - 'it was like watching Brazil' when they were in The Prem with us! Ask their fans again now if they would have swapped that one season of 'watching Brazil' to our 'lump' it game!

 

 

I am all for Little Sammy's move to 442, wingers and more football. I really do hope we gain success from it but you watch how quickly we revert to 433 if we get a bad start to the season!

Well I went to 12 home games last year and the majority of fans around me were saying that they were less likely to go if the footy didn?t improve.

 

As I said, everyone watches footy for diff reasons. Some want success at all costs, some want entertainement. Some want both and some don?t care as they live for the club.

 

All I can say is look at the crowds. Many reasons why they have dropped, but negative tactics is the main reason for me.

I think we've bought well & haven't broke the bank. Granted we're short of a few defenders, but LSL does seem to have his own ideas & he's very modest........as opposed to the big man.

 

Sunderland, Brum, Derby, Wigan - I'll be suprised if these 4 (and possibly Fulham) aren't fighting to stay in this year.............and the mackems, Fulham & Brum have been spending far more than we have.

 

It's a very decent squad we've got now, Allardyce built it, but times moves on and I'm sure everyone will be behind LSL come Saturday................even more so if we beat those geordie w?nkers

Generally i find watching Bolton a damm sight better than other things i could be doing on weekend. I still find it cheap enough to get a ST and get to 5 or 6 away games a season. I watch Bolton because i feel like its my club. Ever since i was a nipper i've gone. Win lose or draw, promotion, relegation or mid-table. I want my club to win, if that means us being unfashionable and branded ugly because other more wealthy and supposedly beter teams don't like it up em, then thats fine by me. But my loyalty isn't blind. If i felt strongly about something then i'm sure i'd stop going. there's a difference though between "supporting" them by getting to every feasible game and "supporting" them by picking and chosing a bit more. It's clear that lot of people found many games where they were neither entertained nor saw a good Bolton result, and are thus becoming chosey. That's a far cry from "deciding not to support".

Thing is, we've got to be careful with this "mid table" argument ie the one that says "I'd rather qualify for Europe by any means than have mid-table free flowing football". If we take 10th as mid-table last year then that was Blackburn, they finished just 4 points behind us and did actually get in t'intertoto (albeit very luckily). There were probably only 3 teams last year who were never going to get in to Europe but were never going down (City, Boro and Newcastle - I'd have added Villa, but had they entered t'intertoto they would have been alive right till the end).

OK, I guess the majority don`t mind the style as long as we win. But you have to admit that some do, and that is one of the resons for the stay away fans.

 

When faced with a 6 hour round trip and the thought of spending 70 quid, I want to come away with a win of course, but if it is a backs to the wall 1-0 win each week, that doesnt motivate me to go.

I think you'll find most teams in the Premier League have their fair share of 'glory hunters'. To be honest they're more than welcome as far as i'm concerned. We're not really in a position to be choosy!
