Sky V Virgin

Righto, I'm on Sky with the full sports mix and sultana, sky broadband, and a BT line. Well over the 12m contract period.

I'm wanting one of them new fangled things where I can pause and rewind telly, and also have another box in the garage so they (the domestic and the young financial deadweights) can watch retarded shite whilst I watch Discovery and rugby league in peace.

Shall I stay with Sky and try and improve my current deal?

If so, what offers are they willing to go to over and above those advertised?

Whats the script with Virgin.......what will they tempt me with?

I threatened to leave Virgin/NTL around 5/6 months ago. I now have the following deal from them:

Full TV Package (120+ channels allegedly)

Full Sky Sports & Setanta

24/7 phone calls to geographic numbers (inc line rent)

decent broadband (2mb, it's enough for me)

V+ box (same as Sky+)

I am on a 12 month deal, and I pay a flat ?40 per month for it, I don't know how that stacks up against Sky, but it seems pretty decent to me.

SKY is better than Virgin, we moved to Virgin/NTL becuase the engineer did nt turn up to install in new house.

Virgin does have virgiN plus with loads of programmes on that you can watch whenever you want for free and the V+ box which is good

you do not get match choice for the football and some other interactive things, also some channels like sky sports news do not come with Virgin.

Ring Sky up and tell them you want to cancel and they will offer you a very good deal to stay, the sky plus box (as is the V+) is brilliant, you will not beleive how much you use it. someone rings and the missus is witterigngaway on the phone, you just pause the programme and then fast forward through the adverts to catch up.

Since we left sky we get all types of offers to go back but now we have phone and everything with NTL can not be arsed, but if you ring sky and say you have been told about NTLs services they will jump through hoops to keep you.

We have phone,TV and broadband with NTL, We have full package of movies ,sports etc, a V+ box in one room and another box in the back room and including phone calls we pay about ?70-?75 per month.

setanta sports and racing channel are free with NTL.

The word on the street is go to NTL, get the basic TV then get a Dbox.

a box off tissues too

Keep it tight.

Type Dbox into Ebay or Wiki

We can't have Sky because of the trees outside our house, Virgin is rubbish. I've had three matches I've ordered just stop midway through, by the time I got through to someone the matches were almost over.

if you get the spoerts package the football is free. no need to order.

I am with Virgin

All channels except prawn

V+ box

All the 'free' archived TV which is ace

4mb broadband

Phone line etc

Free Sultana, which is excellent for boxing

Pay about ?70 a month unless I order movies and that

But I'll put my hands up...missus wouldn't have a dish on the front of the house, so I had no choice

virgin

v+ box, every channel, incl sentanta (as they call it in wigan)

extra box in conservatory,

extra box in bedroom

10mb broadband (unlimited)

free unlimited landline anytime calls

?85 per month

called the XL package

Sky + on its own is approx ?50, then ?25 broadbean, then ?10 bt line

quality speaks for itself,

but you will need a freeview box to get sky sports news, and you wont get sky one.

only major downfall is you cant get football first to work - sky arent stupid!!!!!

sky broadband is free :D

sky + and an extra box for us is 52 (plus a tennera month for shitty santana)

im currently paying another 26 for free calls night/we and 2 meg bb to ntl, oh yeah and a ntl basic box which accounts for a quid a month

i'll be either taking up skys bb and phone package, or switching to ntl telly soon

We can't have Sky because of the trees outside our house,

Same here, due to trees and some pesky conservation lark. Or so I thought. We don't have cable down my way either so my Sky dish is now on a long pole to counteract avoid the foliage and keep the do gooders at bay!

Job done! :good:

These here extra boxes....I'm with Sky and wanted extra boxes put into kids rooms (so I'd see less of them and not have to constantly endure Hannah Monfuckintana) but from what I understood from the engineer I needed a phone point in their rooms, or wires running from the phone point......is this right?

Edited by bwfc_sue

they require the box to be connected, yes

they require the box to be connected, yes

to what?

could they not be connected from the dish itself?

no, no, no

your phone and your sky telly are two different things

they want the ohone line connected so you may use their pay interactive services - gambling n the like

undies would sort you out a couple of phone extensions for favourable rates

I just don't want tons of wires running all over the house though and I don't want the carpet pulling up for them to go under, so I guess i'm buggered then.

it is true. you are just a glitch in the system perhaps.

ive had it happen to me.

they can only require you to connect for the first 12 months

thats whats in the contract

and its the new box, not the existing one, so if its not a sky+ box, swap em over
