when a team who had only taken two points away from home attcked us it was clearly illustrated how inept our defence is...a half decent team would of beat us off the park last night...

 

I thought Nolan's treatment should of been directed at Campo and Gardner back to his fearsome worst last night...he had obviously dug his boots out from four seasons ago...

The ten minutes of pressure early in the second half failed to break down a team that has conceeded a enormous ammount of goals...i really did fear the worse...

I watched the second half on Football First when I got in last night, we weren't as bad as you are making out.

 

At the game, it was hard work - freezing, empty stadium at home to Derby. But when I watched it over, they were lucky to get away with only conceding one in that second half

But a better striker would have scored in the 4th minute for Derby and Miller (?) should have buried that header from the corner. So although we had the better of the 2nd half, Derby had the better chances in the 1st (also hitting the bar) - which was worrying!

 

If Anelka has any sense he will go. He doesn't deserve to be involved in such dogsh1t as last night.

Last night just proved that it is a results game. Had Stelios not scored to make it 1-0 the crowd would have stood and booed the players off. Instead they stood there applauding them off! I agree with Bobcat, the game last night was crap!

 

And the treatment of Nolan as he was getting subbed . . . I'm just glad (and surprised) Sky Sports didn't make an issue of it on Football First. There were about 8 absentees stood on the pitch in white last night. Maybe it was a bit cold for them. CCampo was shocking, Anelka was bone idle, Ricky was poor. In fact the main highlight was the introduction of Wilhelmson. Good job Jussi was on form too!

We had 2 shots on target (worthwhile ones anyway) the goal and the one the keeper tipped onto the bar. I'd say the only "lucky" thing that happend was us scoring

No doubt we got out of jail last night, Megson seems to think we are a big physical team who can out muscle the likes of Derby and Sunderland, I have news for him we cannot out muscle these teams, we have to play the footballers in the squad, when stelios and wilhelmson came on we passed it round them and created a lot of chances in the last 20 minutes. The bolton board must now use this golden chance to invest in quality footballers, if at all possible we must keep anelka, the bolton public needs to be convinced that our board are ambitious or crowds will continue to spiral, the message is clear if we do not Invest it is only a matter of time before we drop out of the top flight.

Like I said somewhere else, Megson seems to think that BSA's style (only more so) is the answer to the club's problems. But that will only take us so far (maybe enough to avoid the drop this season, maybe not).

Unlike BSA, Megson says it was rubbish when it was rubbish (like post-match last night). Sadly he doesn't seem to realise that we're expecting him to resolve the problems, not just identify them. This transfer window will the the defining moment for him and/or ED/BSA.

What was apparent last night was that once Kevin Davies was off the park - we tried to play a bit more football. I told the guy next to me that Wilhelmsson had pace and ability but no final touch. I was proved right, but he added something different to our 2nd half.... rather than us just humping the ball long to Big Kev.

 

Campo was awful. He doesn't make the easy pass when its on, he has to turn into trouble and is causing us some serious sh1t too often.

 

Not sure how we can accommodate Big Kev - but if Anelka STAYS and Diouf goes to ANC, then maybe a front 3 of Anelka, Stelios and Wilhelmsson will be a bit more adventurous and productive for us.

The league is not decided on last nights performance.

 

But based on our last 4 home games..Derby, Wigan and Birmingham are worse than us.

 

Based on the table 5 teams are worse than us.

 

We were terrible last night, Deby were worse and have bagged on of the bottom 3.

 

The only positives last night were that fact we were still going in the 93rd minute and we got 3 points.

Three times in a minute last night Ricky passed the ball to a Derby player, and Campo's porr set pieces and inability to do the sensible thing nearly cost us last night.

 

Apart from Stelios's goal the only bright spot seemed to be Wilhelmsson - thats the most promising performance I have seen from him. Maybe he could be of use when Diouf goes as then he might be able to play on the right.

 

Maybe it is time to sell Anelka as its a waste of time having a player like him when we can't really use him.

I think Wilhelmson is a quality player, he gives us pace and a dimension we do not have, I have seen his performances on you tube and he has a good touch, this will improve with more games, he could play a big part in our 2nd half of the season, if wilhelmson plays in dioufs position while diouf is away I do not think he will be a big miss.

Apart from Stelios's goal the only bright spot seemed to be Wilhelmsson - thats the most promising performance I have seen from him. Maybe he could be of use when Diouf goes as then he might be able to play on the right.

 

But as Smiley pointed out, there wasn't an end result. I remember a certain Sasa Curcic who played similarly; dribble, look around, dribble a bit more, get ball poked from under his foot.

Anelka going will sadly leave you with fcuk all, and probably the worst team in the prem.

Sammy Lee got one win, and saw positives in drawing against that very same team, he would have been cartwheeling. It was a good result which was the main thing. Guthrie played well, Willy looked good at last when he came on, and we knocked it on the ground a lot once Davies went off, not sure how you managed to miss that?

Without getting into the rights and wrongs of individual performances, I have to say I quite enjoyed the match last night. There was a lot more goal-mouth action than I've seen for quite a while. The inability to get the ball in the back of the net was more than a little frustrating though.

There was a very, very fine line; in fact it was the finest of fine lines; between beating this season's whipping boys and only drawing against them. OK a win is a win but let's not get too excited about the rest of the season when we can't even put Derby well and truly out of sight as an opponent in 90 minutes!

I agree about Guthrie, Whielemson started well then most things went through Guthrie and Diouf on the right, he then saw very little of the ball, I agree he is an attcking player which gets some of you hard....

 

I didn't really miss much as i had the luxury of watching it in my front room....and anyone who believe's that last night's performance was anything other than f*cking dogshit...is deluding themselves.

Agreed that we were better with Willy and Stella on in preferance to Davo but when Davo is out injured for a few weeks we miss him. This has been proven in the past. When he returns we are often a stronger and more productive team in the final third generally - I think last night was a one off
