Ross Kemp In Afghanistan

Featured Replies

Anyone see it last night?

Bit of an eye opener that programme

was he starring in Fareastenders?

okay, I know it would have worked better had he been in Thailand or somewhere...... but the humour is wearing thin at Smiley Towers.

Refuse to take anyone seriously who gets tw?tted up by his wife and cries to the OB about it :nea:

Is that the one where he p?sses himself with fear when they come under fire then claims it was water from a cracked canteen?

Aye i watched it, and it just brings home just what a good job those lads are doing out their, in very shitty conditions a lot of the time. Some of them are only kids...

I find Kemp v annoying but its still very watchable TV.

They're shagging like rabbits and get pissed all day watching Sky Sports. Occassionally they get to club a terrorist to death with a cricket bat.

Well, so Maggie told me.

Aye, was good TV i thought, well better than watching that Royal Family thingymebob on ITV, though even that has been pretty funny!!I take my hat off to all the lads and lasses out there who are doing a bloody good job!Kemp whacked himself when that RPG flew over his head, i think he was laughing cause he was nervous, still unmissable TV for me!! :good:

And that's on his homeleave :good:

Apart from kemp it's a superb programme...

although it is good to see him shit himself as the rpg's fly 5 foot from his head...

it gives a good insight into the helhole Bliar sent us into...

and the great job the lads are doing...some still teenagers..

My son was with kemp out their. and next to him when he pissed him self. and he said he got back to camp that night and cried.all night.. i have the programme on disc the uncut version. presented to all the boys in the battalion by ross himself. and when they all came home to pirbright kemp was at hand and presented everyone with a couple of beers. with special labels on them. were they are in the attic with the rest of the momentos from Afghanistan. they are back now and stationed in pirbright untill next year when they will be going on a little tour of germany for 3years.

can sleep easy at night now :good:

Absolute respect to all the brave lads and lasses out.

Kinda makes what we do work wise worthless.

not worthless - just a heck of a lot safer. The debate, in fact, might be on the ultimate "worth" of what the poor, brave, sods out there are having to do.

He's irrelevant.

In my defence I hadn't seen it. Heard the world and their dog saying it was the best thing they had ever seen on Talk sport afterwards. :good:

It does give you a whole insight into what our boys go through out there on a daily basis. Makes me respect them even more and feel incredibly proud of the job they do.

As much as I am no fan of Kemp fair play to him for showing us all what the lads are going through out there. Without the programme I would still be oblivious to it.

Would you go through that lot for the 800 quid a month or so that the private soldiers out there get?

My daughters boyfriend has just joined the Royal marines and he's been told that as soon as he is eligible he is going to Afghanistan, he did 3 years in th'army a few years back and has a desire to go back, i've told him to kill one of the f?kers for me

Do you get any 'bonus' related pay.

Tenner a head, so to speak.

Ste this is not the 1850s, folk don't get paid by the piece anymore :D

Right, pay for the forces. I'm not a private so I may be slightly off, but anyway,

Whilst on operations in Iraq, the Balkans or Afghanistan no soldier pays for food or accomodation which whilst not deployed is usually ?120 ish a month and for accomodation anywhere between free if it's unspeakably sh?t as much of it sadly is or about ?110 a month for the best and newest single living accomodation. Now, you may have read that income tax was to be waived for lads and lasses on ops and although this is not strictly true the effect of the ?12 odd per day operational bonus that came in is much the same. So, on ops in Iraq, Afghan or the Balkans you receive your salary, you do not get charged food or accomodation and you get your operational bonus as well as much smaller amounts for things like Long Separation Allowance.

Now, there are also trade bonuses worth so much per day. A bod who is qualified up to the tits on things like diving instructor (an extra ?15 ish a day), parachuting instructor (same), or a linguist (about ?16 extra a day for Iraq and Afghan type languages) or helicopter pilots will get extra money for being expert in particularly valuable specialities. There is also Special Forces pay for the SBS and SAS on top of their higher salaries. You won't find an SF bloke on much less than about 40k a year before bonuses. Basically this reflects their importance.

However, the ordinary infantry bod who is on the sharp end of what is being thrown at them will not be on much more than about ?1100 a month whilst on tour. But what if you get both your legs blown off? Well, the MoD will f?ck you off with a pathetic compen package and part of the reason you may now not have any legs is due to sh?t equipment or a complete lack of equipment.

I have to be totally honest and say I do OK out of my job. I earn enough that at this stage of life I don't worry about money and have enough spare at the end of the month to save a fair bit.

'But squaddies are always moaning they don't get enough,' you may be saying. I think what I get is fairly reasonable. The govt gave us a 9.7% increase last year and we might get just above inflation this year too. But I have to say, without blowing our own trumpet, we f?ckin deserve it. On ops I expect to be working 14-18 hours a day, 7 days a week for 6 months with a day off once a month if I'm lucky, in sh?t conditions and given the importance of what the job involves I deserve what I am paid. So basically, firemen, police officers make me f?ckin laugh.

Where the pay is a scandal is at the lowest level, for ordinary private soldiers without rank. It's them who get all the sh?t, it is them who get the most asked of them and it is them who receive the least financial benefit.

Erm, that's how it works, sort of in a nutshell.

Couldn't believe those scruffy Muzzi's where shooting at our lads from a Mosque. An airstrike was definitely the order of the day there, like to see the tw@ts snipe with half a dozen cluster bombs up the jacksy!

The sick fookers have probably got women and kids in there so if theres a strike, it's a publicity coup.

Heard today, insurgents used mentally ill women for suicide bombings today in Iraq.
