Didn't we go through this exact scenario with the signing of Megson as replacement for LSL? Well, as it happens, whilst he may not be the Premiership's best manager, he certainly ain't the worst either. Some folk on here were not even for giving him the chance!

 

Liken this to the Pole. He may not have been in the plans at Southampton; or Spurs before that, but he may just set the Premiership alight. We'll have to wait and see. With decent chance of getting at Davies's knock downs he could score a panfull.

my opinion is we are relegated....

 

more or less everyone on here 3 weeks ago was stating we need a goal scorer or we are down...

 

Tuesday night was a classic example of that...

 

Haven't seen the guy...don't know if he can cut it...will he even play?

 

but in my opinion what we have will not score us the goals to stay up...the previous 2/3rd's of the season have proved that...

i do not understand how anyone can be happy with the situation we are now in, signing a reserve player from a championship team or relying on player returning from injury having discovered how to stay on his feet is at best a dodgy plan.

 

i do not understand all this about 'who could we have signed' 'xxx was too expensive' etc etc. the management of the club need to have plans in place to cover when such a predictable event as anelka leaving happens.

the one good thing is that we have bought more players in than our relegation rivals, the difference is that none of them lost a player of anelkas calibre.

Alves scored more goals than anyone else in Europe last season (he's got 45 in 39 games for Heerenven), so he certainly knows how to put the ball in the net. Whether Middlesbrough can make chances for him is a different issue, but I'd say he is certainly worth the risk, even at ?12m.
