Thoughts On The Match

An excellent win, and many positives!!!

When I saw Reading starting with Lita, Kitson and Doyle up front I was concerned but I didn't need to be - they were all crap. On that performance Lita isn't worth ?7.

Our midfield started sluggishly, Davies picked up a card after being outwitted by Hunt and we were being over-run. But step forward Cahill and Steinsson. Throughout the game Hunt was Reading's main attacking threat but Steinsson rarely gave him a look in. And Kitson barely got a touch thanks to Cahill. Both look real quality, classy defenders. Cahill in particular made some great tackles and won everything in the air. It's only one game but it seems like we've got a defender we can rely on. All of a sudden AOB looks like the weak link at the back.

Up front Heidar was in and out of the game, though he had a few opportunities to score before his goal - all attempts were off-target. His goal was at the far end so I couldn't really see what happened, but the Reading players seemed to stop and he had all the time in the world to run on to the ball and tuck it under Hahnemann. Their fans were up in arms about it.

Davies was his usual self and spent much of the game on the right flank - no sign of a goal from him but he got the assist for Nolan's strike. Taylor played OK but his penalty was at a comfortable height for their keeper to save.

As time went on we looked really comfortable. Steinsson had to clear off the line from a corner but I can only recall Jussi making one save.

After those two drab goalless draws it was pleasing to see us continuing to attack whilst leading. No, we didn't sign a replacement for Anelka, but if the midfield and attack have a defence they can trust, maybe they will play with more freedom and contribute the goals to keep us up.

Good thing we didnt sign Lita, not only over rated but dont think him and Jussi get along to well, is there some history there?? they were at each other all game

Sound very positive, Thankfully we now have a decent right back, cannot believe we have struggled along with Hunt and Obrien at RB, Cahill sounds just what we need a big solid centre half, while I enjoyed watching Anelka, last season when we sIgned him I was screaming for the money to be spent on overall squad building, looking back Anelka's signing was done to massage allardyces ego, thankfully sanity now seems to be coming back to BWFC.

How many fans did we take?

I'm never the best at estimating this, 500?

There wasn't much noise from us either, especially in the first half - apart from the 2 dozen yoof!

cahill...worth every penny FACT!!!

good display...so much better with more than one striker in the team and that lump mccann out of the team

didnt see any kids get chucked out today, must be a first !

Here here, cannot remeber a player who has annoyed me more than mcann for a long time, it is not that he does not give 100% it is that he adds nothing to the team.

Interesting point, Mounts. I was struggling for BSA's final 18 months to understand why he wouldn't strengthen the squad's weak positions - especially full-backs. Maybe he was only into 'bigger & better' ..... and therefore Anelka. but not squad strengthening.

Totally agree. We have a slow midfield at the best of times and have been lacking that link up between midfield and the forward/s. Megson has brought organisation to the team and a few clean sheets recently, so hopefully that will give the likes of Nolan the encouragement to press forward and get himself in the sort of positions he found himself in today. The players know what their task is and they get on with it and as much as we didnt get the striker or the creative midfielder we all craved for, we are better than the majority of the teams caught in our position. Staying up is our priority this season, but i firmly believe Megson is building a base for the future and there wont be the same amount of negative shite on this board next season.

looking at some of his Newcastle signings, I presume you mean Ronnie & Iglesias.

Basic Maths for you:

If Fat Sam and Fat Craig were given 12 million, how many pies could they buy from Partingtons at ?1.20 for 3.

FSA is on sky now for the geordie match. said the board were happy at being 3rd last year in january so they gave him no money to spend and now were in a relegation scrap we get 12m or whatever it is. Said we werent matching his ambition. Sounds very bitter!

God forbid we'd have ended up with an axe mudering cigar stumping scouser in centre midfield. Not counting the times he would have been in prison of course...
