So who's been to Bratislava? I planned to once but along with about 25 other people off this board it didn't happen back in 2002. 2002!! F?cking hell.

 

Or Vienna in fact, I've never been ther either.

 

Any tips would be nice, cheers.

Lovely little city. I stayed on the river on a hotel boat (think it was called the Botel). Accomodation is relatively expensive for that part of the wordl, but everthing else is dirt cheap. Doesn't really cater for the toursit trade, but everone in the bars and restaurants speaks decent English.

 

Vienna is very close (think it was about an hour away by train). Well worth a full day trip and may be even overnighting if you have the time as it's huge by comparison.

Vienna is a really nice place. I went there after being to Prague and Budapest, which made it seem expensive but really you're probably only paying the same prices as you would in the UK. Agree with the squidgmiester, its worth staying overnight.

PS - I have the Lonely Planet country guides for both if you want me to drop them off at the match some time. They're about 2-3 years old, but should be resonably up-to-date.

Like yourself i was a 4 am vote away from making the trip.

I went about 3 years ago. A nice little city, everything is within walking distances.

 

It twas very cheap too. I think it's now marketing itself as "Partyslava" so if you're going on a weekend it could be full of stag groups.

 

I'd suggest Budapest before there though unless you've already been.

Bratislava can be very quiet if you're not out on a Friday or Saturday night. In fact Sunday was deserted. Depends on what you are after.

Bratislava is pretty enough but there's not a lot to do other that sup (some belting boozers) and gawp at all the fit women. If that's enough for you, happy days. If you go in the Spring/Summer, you can get a boat down the Danube to Vienna or Budapest - only takes two or three hours or so, and would probably be a pleasant way of passing the time.

 

Vienna is a beautiful city. Plenty to see and do, stunning architecture, grand cafes, dark cellar bars.

 

You can even pretend you're Orson Welles at the Prater!

 

 

And yes, I know that's Joseph Cotten, but it was the best picture of the wheel I could find!

We stayed on a Botel in Bratislava then travelled to Vienna for the England game, just before Christmas when it were snowing, as has been said, it is a very nice centre with some good bars , the fit women won't appeal to you while you're with the missus It took us about an hour and a half by coach to get to Vienna, all in all an excellent trip, well worth going

A few of us stayed one night in Bratislava before the Munich game. Looks nice but the people were cunts.

 

Kicked off in an Irish bar of all places - they locked the door on us and tried pinning someone else's bar bill on us. We refused to pay, bouncers got baseball bats out and it got messy.

 

Ended up getting a taxi straight to Vienna airport!!!

Bratislava or Bratislava as it's known locally, not bad for one night IMO, you can walk round the place in 30 mins.

 

I would plump for Vienna, miles more to see, plus as someone has already stated you can nip to Bratislava in an hour on't train.

 

You can take your maud up 'The Danube', if you know what I mean

She's keen on Valencia now. Again, I've never been, wouldn't know whether you can mange three days there so if anyone has been...

Went last October. Decent enough place and they've spent millions doing it up for the Americas Cup (I think it was)

 

Three days could be a stretch as it is quite easy to run out of things to do. Ended up going round a Titanic museum just to fill a couple of hours.

 

The football ground could easily be mistaken for a multi storey car park and is a bit of a dump, but worth a view nonetheless.
